I just finished installing my Apex Forward Set Sear and Trigger Kit in my M&P 40C. All I can say is WOW. No adjustment necessary. It's everything a combat trigger should be.
I just hope they come out with one for the Shield.

Is yours the aluminum trigger or the polymer? I got the aluminum trigger version, and getting that trigger pivot pin to move was a PITA.

Are you talking about the pin that comes partly installed in the trigger? I put my trigger linkage over the pin and squeezed it through with pliers. I was worried about driving it into the edge of the hole and messing the hole up. Pushing it with pliers is much safer.

An easier way to get the trigger spring lined up, so you can insert the trigger pin, is to use a small screwdriver. I found I could insert a precision (small) screwdriver in to the trigger pin frame hole, the opposite side of the way the trigger pin in inserted (right side of the frame). Once the trigger pin is pushed into the trigger (just to the opening for the spring), then I insert the screwdriver, and hook it on the end of the spring. Then just lever the screwdriver to pull the spring in, so that it aligns with the pin hole. Then just push the trigger pin in. One or two tries and the trigger pin pushes in and the spring is captured. Much easier than fooling with the install pin or trying to push the spring in with pliers or a hooking tool.

I'm thinking about getting this kit, can you tell me if the position of the FSS trigger kit starts the same as factory position? In the video it looks like it moves it back a bit.

Thank you

It looks like the Apex trigger is farther back but it's kind of an optical illusion. The stock M&P trigger has the lower part hinged where the Apex is not (has the little "bippy" in the middle of the trigger) if you move the moveable lower part of the trigger back to where it starts to move the trigger they're the same. I'm trying to figure out how to get a picture to show this. (actually never thought about it until you asked, so I had to look, I have an Apex on my competition pistol but my carry piece is still stock). I've attached a couple of pics, hopefully you can see what I mean. The first one is my compact with a stock trigger(and my finger holding the swing part back) and the second is my CORE with an Apex. I prefer the Apex for competition but not sure if I want it on a carry pistol, still trying to make up my mind on this one. The big difference for me is the much shorter travel in the Apex. Hope this helps.

Bkreutz -

I am interested in the FSS and polymer trigger for my 5" Pro. Problem is I am also interested in getting started in competitive shooting. I understand that IDPA does not allow either product in the SSP division.

What are my options?

Thanks

You can use them in the ESP division. Local matches probably wouldn't care if they were used in the SSP but that would vary by club. Depends how far up the ladder you want to compete.

Thanks for the pics bkreutz, that helps alot. I originally bought the DCAEK kit, but as soon as I started installing it, I figured out it wasn't fixing what I wanted fixed.

I put a full kit from PRP similar to this in my xdm that I shoot USPSA with and love it, but didn't know if this kit would get me close to the same feel, but it seems like it does.

So it looks like the my half installed, never fired DCAEK kit is getting sold and I will be getting one of the FSS kits:).

It does indeed move it back a little, but that's the point. On my M&P .45 there is very little take up and the over travel is almost completely gone. It is a marvelous upgrade and worth every penny.

I carry my gun sometimes and still like the Apex FSS better than stock.

Glad to see a review from someone who has installed one of these. I am looking at an M&P PRO for competition in the future and liked the sound of this kit.

What was it specifically that you wanted fixed?

I bought this gun for my wife to go to the range with me. She likes the gun but was having trouble getting used to the trigger. I figured I would try the DCAEK to lighten up the pull, but it seemed to move the trigger back too far for her. So now I'm gonna throw the FSS kit in and if she still doesn't like it, I'll use it and shoot minor ;)

Edit..I meant to say that the travel seems longer and the break seems farther back...the trigger position itself didn't change.

When I installed the poly FSS kit, it did move the trigger back, and felt a little odd at first. However, after one session at the range, I quickly adjusted and am glad I installed it.

The trigger starts off back a bit from stock, but the trigger break is more forward than stock, correct?

OK, so rather than use general terms, I measured the relative positions. All the measurements are taken from the front of the mag release to the center of the arc of the trigger.

1. Full forward position: (with the safety bar or trigger back) Stock= 9/16", Apex= 9/16"

2. Takeup: (the point where the trigger meets resistance). Stock 7/16", Apex 1/2"

3. Break: Stock 3/8", Apex 7/16"

4. Full rearward travel: Stock 5/16", Apex 7/16"

So my conclusions are that both triggers start in the same position (once the hinged part of the stock trigger is in the "fire" position) but the Apex has half the takeup and break and no measureable aftertravel. I'm sure there is some travel but I was using a 6" Starret pocket ruler to make these measurements. The actual distances would probably be different with a dial indicator setup but I didn't feel like going through that fire drill:D.

Thanks for the measurements :). Sounds like it will work just fine.

Hold the phone there S&WProtected. The PRO series is a whole different bucket of pickles. They have much nicer triggers in them than the regular M&P line.

Don't be too quick to "upgrade" that pistol. Shoot it some first. You may just find the trigger to be acceptable.
