Same story as everyone else with the failure to extract malfunctions with their shields. Spend casing will only extract about half way out of the chamber causing to gun to jam. Anyways, I'll try to be as brief and to the point as possible. After buying my shield 9mm from kittery trading post, I put hundreds of rounds through it, all factory ammo, wwb, federal, remington, hornady, magtec, American Eagle. fmj 115, 147 jhp, 135 jhp, you get the idea, basically any ammo I could get my hands on. I had FTE malfunctions with all types of ammo, with all 4 mags that I own, malfunctions were distributed evenly with ammo selection and mags. Sent the gun back to Smith, barrel and recoil rod/ spring were replaced. Took it to the range, put hundreds of rounds through it, same story, same failure to extract malfunctions. I sent it back once again, the extractor and extractor spring were replaced, I had to call Smith because the sheet of paper where the repairs should be listed was just blank. I took the gun to the range, guess what, same story, the same failure to extract malfunctions, used at least 5 types of ammo, with no luck. I've had 2 different people shoot the gun, they all had the same failures. Those 2 people both own shields and they have been flawless, I've shot their shields and they have preformed 100%. So, I sent my shield back for the 3rd time, I expect S&W to replace the pistol at very least. I'm frustrated because I've spent hundreds and hundreds of dollars on ammo trying to get this gun to function, I spent nearly a hundred bucks on a holster, a little more than a hundred on night sights etc. I'll update the thread once I hear back from S&W, they'll get my gun tmrw.

I'm really sorry to hear this is happening to you. As much as I would also be frustrated with this, I think I'd be asking for a refund at this point. Three times going back for the same problem isn't right.

Man, I'm sorry. I was one of the lucky ones who got a flawless Shield. I don't think you are out of line at all, three times is enough, demand a replacement. I hope the replacement is flawless. It's a great gun, but if it does not go bang, you are right, what good is it?

The rep I spoke with said he'd be upset as well, he told me that "it sounds like you got a lemon". I love the shield as a carry gun, I hope to get one that's flawless.

It seems to be hit or miss with the shield, I know they cranked up production to meet up with demand and perhaps some quality control was overlooked. I don't want to give up on the model at this point, just want one that works!

Try as I might I can't get my Shield to fail.

I am so sorry for those few Shield owners who can't get no satisfaction.

Love the shield, can't wait until it works, very nice carry piece imo.

I have the same problem..After 1500 rounds down the pipe I can't get mine to fail either. :D

(Except for the box of Blazer aluminum cases)

I feel your pain! I sent mine back for the same problem. They apparently fixed it the first time. I have put 325 rounds through it flawlessly. I will not trust it till I put 1000 through it.
The funny thing was they never checked the safety recall while they had it? It needed it fixed too. So i was without the gun for six weeks so far...

I'll be sending mine back to S&W (for the first and hopefully only time) this week for the same problem. Spent casings don't come all the way out of the chamber, and in some instances it looks like they tip up just a little bit so even if the extractor pulls them all the way back they miss the ejector bar.

The malfunction picture I'm sending in with the gun looks exactly like the one the OP posted. Fingers and toes crossed that they get this figured out.

ETA: Out of curiosity, what's your serial # / manufacture date? Mine's HBNxxxx with a purchase date of late May 2013.

HBHxxxx, I'm not exactly sure of the date it was born. I can't remember exactly when I bought it either. I got it from kittery trading post when shields were impossible to come by.

Any updates?....Mine also is going back for the 3rd time, same problem. I either want a new slide and barrel,or a new gun. I do really think it has something to do with the slide breachface cut?
The customer service rep, seems to think a new gun will come out of this, BUT, that will take a long time, and I have already been without it for 6 weeks:eek: It will be Christmas before I get a new gun. I have put 1000 rounds = $300 worth of ammo through this gun to make sure its right ,and its not.I have had 10 FTE (extract) in that 1000 rounds which causes a phase 3 malfuntion ,which is difficult to clear. So let the waiting begin...
