Who's using the m&p shield for home defense and carry?

i have a several firearms, but shield can act as both. i see no reason if its someones only weapon. I have used mine in both capacities when traveling etc...

Just wondering who is using for both, not just carry.

What I've done lately is to put my Shield on my dresser at night as an option in case of a break in. My regular HD gun is my FS 9, which I keep in a small gun vault attached to my bed frame. My Shield is always with me, usually in a pocket holster.

Glock 30 on the nightstand but the Shield .40 is sitting right next to it in a holster.

I'm home all day so it is on me all day. To be quite honest, at night I would hope to be able to grab my Beretta 92 if possible but would be comfortable with the Shield if not. Good luck!

When a Shield is all you have, it works better than nothing in the home. Could it be adequate? Sure, as good as a small revolver. Given an option or choice, there are certainly better home defense guns than a Shield.

A compact gun designed for concealment will not be as effective as a larger, higher capacity, heavier, easier to shoot gun for home defense, especially when adding accessories such as a light/laser or extended magazine.

If one owns a full-size, high capacity defensive pistol, I doubt one would default to the Shield if the other was available.

The only excuse for using the Shield is if you have no alternative.

Shield's are for carry, shotguns are for first line home defense. My nightstand gun is a G20, but I'm going for the scatter gun, if I have time. JMO.

Thanks guys, it's funny because I work at a gun store and part of me wants to tell people to use a shotgun for home defense, but I still want to make the customer happy. ya know

Not me. I have a 45 in my nightstand with laser sights and my Sport in the closet with JHP Hornady TAPs in it.

I have a number of handguns and use my Shield as my "garage gun" stowed away in a safe place. For me, it's too large to be a pocket gun. It would also make a good "car gun" but I occasionally drive onto military reservations so I can't keep it permanently in my car. I use a Glock 19 as my primary house gun.

Ditto on this. I may have my M&P9c on the nightstand, but that's only because I took it off to sleep. If I hear the proverbial "bump in the night", my hand is going straight past it to the 870 with a forend light.

My Shield will be on my hotel nightstand if that's what I'm carrying that day....

At home the Shield comes off and goes in the bathroom drawer.

A 45c and a 40FS with a Streamlight are in the nightstand.

870 behind the door.

The wife has a 642 with +P's on hers. The kids have their own in their rooms.

A 9c is in the office drawer and a couple more 9's are sprinkled about hidden from view.

Paranoid?

No, just need another safe!!! :p

.

My 40 Shield is my go to CCW. To protect my home, there's an MP 9 FS w/Viridian laser hidden in the couch in the living room, an MP 9c with a Viridian laser under my pillow in the bedroom, a Ruger LCR 357 hidden in the kitchen, a Body Guard 380 in my gym bag in the den, a Mossberg 930 SPX Blackwater loaded w/00 buckshot under the bed with an MP-15 w/Eotech red dot in the safe for backup if all else fails. My wife carries a Sig 938 in her purse.

Gotta get a couple of 1911's to hide in the bathrooms, God help me if I have a home invasion while I'm seated on the throne!

My Shield is for carry outside my home. There is a FS 9mm equipped with Crimson Trace grips on my night stand. The Shield isn't bad for home defense, there are just better options. Ie, bigger pistol, 870 pump shotgun, AR 15, etc.

I am reading posts of folks with x weapon on the night stand.

Please invest in a quick access vault for the night stand.

For less than $100 I have my loaded XD 45 and Shield 9 in a Gunvault. 2 seconds it is open in the dark.

For those using shotguns you can purchase a wall mount quick access receiver lock for $135.

Be safe

I used my PPS for HD for a while, just swapped the 5-round for the 7-round mag when I got home.

Posted from my car phone.
