Hello I recently bought a MP 40 full size used but it has a big white strip across the slide. Just wanted to know if anyone would know why it would have this strip and how I can take it off. I attached a photo of the gun I would appreciate your response, Thankyou
Is the finish missing, or is it something applied to the slide? There's normally engraving there on non-magazine safety guns - does yours have a mag safety?
Thanks for the comments, I bought it used I also noticed there is lettering under that white strip. At first I thought it was to cover up that caution notice and maybe it is since the gun won't fire with out having a magazine. What would you guys recommend me to try to take it off? For sure it's not tape it's like a coat or paint I just don't like the way the gun looks with that strip
I'm thinking that the slide is not the original slide that came with that frame being it is a used weapon. The frame has the mag disconnect and the slide is from a non-disconnect gun.
Melonite is tough, so if you think its paint, maybe try acetone. If your hesitant abt trying that, Hoppes is a pretty strong solvent and for sure safe for your gun.
Removing the mag safety is also doable, if you don't like it (not sure of the legal issues with that though, if any).
Today getting home from work I will try different things to take it off from the suggestions you guys have gave me. I also have a MP 9proseries with out that magazine safety and I would prefer to take it off this 40
