I need to replace the screw holding the cover over the plunger on my M&P CORE 9mm. I stripped it doing an Apex upgrade. Does anyone know the size (thread pitch and length) of the screw or where to buy one?

Appreciate the help!

Your best bet is to call (not email) customer service at S&W, they'll probably send you one free. In the meantime, you can take a torx wrench a bit larger than the hex hole and tap it into the screw with a hammer. It will make new splines and allow you to put that screw back into the cover. It doesn't need to be tight since there is either the plastic cover or an optic over the top of it. (guess how I know this works ;))

Edit: I went back and checked old posts. I used a T-6 Torx to tap into the screw, after you get the striker block changed, put your old screw back into the cover, screw it in as far as you can with the hex bit, then tap the Torx into it for the final tighten. My Core still has the damaged screw in it over a year later.

I too would like to know the correct size. I tried to remove this to clean and polish the plunger. I tried a .050 wrench, but it is slightly loose. Too loose in my opinion.

Bkreutz - I have used this technique on other equipment, but with my firearms, I try to use the right tool for the job.

Anyone have the answer? Thanks!

Here's a link to an old thread about the size of the screw wrench. (this is where my picture originally appeared) interesting conversation about the size. ;) http://smith-wessonforum.com/smith-wesson-m-p-pistols/322419-apex-forward-set-sear-trigger-kit-core.html
