Still having troubles installing the Apex trigger

Guys,

I'm stuck, very stuck.
I had troubles installing the Apex trigger (the rest of the kit went in fine).

But I had the old sear housing, so after a couple of months I got the newer version (living on the other side of the world doesnt speed up anything)

Just got it, tried to install it and keep running into the same problem.
With the new alu. Apex trigger the triggerbar doesn't engage the sear far enogh to make it flush with the sear housing.
(it engages it only for about 30%)

What the h*ll am I doing wrong, it's so frustrating.
Watched the video and I'm doing the same stuff

You can bent the loop up a little with a flat blade screwdriver to get earlier engagement.

If you mean that the sear doesn't go down flush with the housing, that's normal with an Apex FSS, I noticed that when I first installed one a couple of years ago and I've installed a couple since then and they're both the same way. Reassemble the pistol and dry fire it, it should work just fine. I think that's where the overtravel disappears.

Be careful with the loop adjustment, it can cause a bunch of other problems (light primer strikes come to mind). If you're talking about something else, post up some pictures.

+1 on BKreutz response.
I also noticed that the sear doesn't go flush when the trigger is pulled.
It is NOT A PROBLEM as long as the striker is released.
Reassemble the gun and if you hear a click when you pull the trigger, you're probably ok. No click = problem.

Use dummy rounds or another method (like the pencil test) to ensure the striker is released and traveling far enough.

If it is, you are good.

As others have said, the sear will not go all the way down, that helps eliminate over travel.

You can adjust the trigger bar loop to tweak the sear movement if it is not releasing the striker, or if you want a little more or less over travel than it has. A little over travel is a good thing for reliability. Tweaking the loop also affects pretravel as well.

Just don't go bending and rebending the trigger bar loop too much, it will weaken the metal and may lead to breakage.

If you google or youtube apex trigger you can find a video on how to adjust for the issue you have. I think there might be a video on the apex website. Very informative. a few minutes of research will go a long way.

OP, is this how your pistol looks like with the trigger depressed and the loop engaging the sear?

I dont have the Apex kits, I only did the Burwells method to lighten my trigger pull. All parts are OEM. I've bent it a bit and it now engaged, but now my triggerbar sits right next to the sear, so it won't engage when the slide is on. grrrr

Update #2432:

Well it works, sort of.
The trigger goes click, so the bullet goes bang.
However! When I cycle (dont know a better word for it) the slide without touching the trigger it resets.
When I cycled the slide with the trigger fully pulled back (as you would do after you just fired a shot) the trigger doesn't reset.

Did I open up the loop on the triggerbar too far?

You must have bent it a little too much. With your finger off the trigger, the trigger bar probably has just enough clearance from the sear, which allows it to capture the striker/firing pin. But when you pull the trigger and keep you finger at the trigger, there is not enough clearance for the loop to move out of the sear as you cycle the slide.

Since we have the same issue, though mine is with OEM parts, Im gonna leave it alone. As long as the pistol functions properly even with just the 30-40% contact between loop and sear, and also showing an uneven wear on the loop. I'll just have to rely on S&W's warranty to replace any parts that would prematurely wear/break.
Oh, and I've also emailed S&W CS and asked about this and showed my pics. We'll see what they say.

Ugh, this trigger is going into the trash. Can't get it to work.
I'm at the point where the trigger clicks, but still no reset with engaged trigger, I still have to fully release it. Rack the slide and then click again

Do not throw the trigger in the trash, I have the apex fss kit on my 40c and it is great. call S&W and apex to see if you can get it resolved. these company's have good customer service. do some research. Did you watch the video I posted from Apex?

I had hell with the aluminum trigger install in my FS. I am betting all your issues are in the loop. Took me a little there but the pin was way worse scared up the trigger doing that. PM me on it and I'll walk you through if you need!

I think calling S&W or Apex from Holland would cost more than a new pistol. (though emailing Apex would probably get a response).
