Hey friends,
I have a brand new shield 40 that I got the other day. Right after getting it home when cycling ammo through it to get the feel of it (insert mag, chamber round, release mag, clear chamber). More often than I would like my DRT hollow points seemed to be causing issues. When chambering a round, it can get stuck crooked in the chamber and it does not completely close (see picture).

On top of this issue, upon clearing the chamber the round tends to jam itself sideways on the way out. Now I didnt make a full judgment until I cleaned and fired it (which I did today). I fired some DRT at the range and though I didnt have any jams on ejecting rounds. I did have several where the round caused the chamber to close only about 80% of the way (picture). It would fire a round, cycle to another one from the magazine and not set completely. Thinking it might be the gun not liking DRT in particular. I fired 100 rounds of FMJ through it completely perfect. No issues, no jams, nothing. Completely perfect. Bought some Remington hollows on the way out and dry cycling at home has the same results as the DRT.
I talked to someone at the range behind the counter and he was telling me it might be an issue with the way the front of the bullet is shaped and it could be a defect from the factory. Since it is a saturday and Smith customer support wont open until Monday. I figure I would take to the forums and get some opinions.
So, what do you guys think?
Has anyone had this issue?
I do not want to say none of this was my fault. But after 100 rounds of fmj flawlessly (and 2-300 i fired through on a rental before purchasing), I feel that I was not getting any jams due to operator error. I made sure I was pulling the slide ALL the way back, magazine was fully seated in the firearm etc.
thanks in advance!
