I found a terrific grip modification for the M&P 40 which others might benefit from as well. After recently purchasing the M&P (original version, not M2.0) I was rather disappointed by the feel of the stock grips. They weren't bad they just weren't great for my hand (I normally wear extra large gloves). The medium palm swell was a bit too thin and with the large I felt I wasn't able to get the web of my hand firmly up under the beavertail due to a somewhat ill fitting contour along the back.

I had heard Talon grips improved the feel of stock grips for many and was about to order some but decided to look around at other options first. I eventually ran across the Hogue HandAll grip made for the M&P 40/9 (only about $12) and decided to give it a try after reading a glowing comment from another M&P owner with large hands who wasn't happy with the stock grips.

The grip, which locks securely into the M&P just like the palm swells, was something of a challenge to install but with some determination that battle was won. And the end result is simply fantastic. The grip feels like it was custom made for my hand and the somewhat soft rubber affords a very positive grip on the pistol. I think it is a good looking grip as well (picture below).

If you aren't entirely happy with the feel of your M&P's stock grip/palm swells and you have hands on the large side you might want to give this grip a try. I should note a friend, who is a very experienced handgunner, that has smaller hands said he likes the feel of the grip material but it bulks my M&P grip up too much for his liking.

I tried the Handall grip on my Shield 9 a couple of weeks ago and ended up removing it. It worked very well and made the grip much more comfortable, but it increased the width of the grip by at least 50%. Concealability is a primary concern for me, so I ended up going with Talon grips, because my Stock Shield was definitely a little slippery.

The Handall doesn't cost much though, and it's worth a try if you don't mind adding some thickness.

I have em on everything. Maybe a couple dozen. Some Overmoulded, some Beavertails, some Handall's, some Handall Jr's.

At around 7 bucks, on sale, I usually pick up a half a dozen and throw em on the shelf so I have one when I want it.

Love em;)

After reading this thread, I went ahead and ordered one for my new (to me) M&P40 because the large grip is too big for my comfort. As the OP said, after a bit of a battle to get it on, it fits well and is much more pleasant in my hand. Next off to the range to see if it helps with gun handling. Thanks for the post.

You will be pleased with it, I just love the feel every time I hold the gun. It improves handling a lot. It is not that hard to put on since it install the same as the palm swell just rub a bit of CLP on it and it will slide on. I also got one for my shield.

Funny little thing that HandAll. I hate fat grips. Have a USP45 Tactical that has a 2x4 for a grip. Feels like a d@mn 1st Gen glock on roids or something. But I've had a HandAll on that thing for years (making it even fatter) and for some reason, it just works out. A friend had a standard USP45 before me with one on it which was what lead me to it, and I cannot stand to shoot the gun without it on there.

One thing, I've removed mine once in like 10 years. My buddy did say that if you remove it a bunch it loosens up and tends to move on the grip after a while. Don't know the truth in that, but something to consider. And of course, best thing is they are inexpensive and if you don't like it, you aren't out much if you end up never using the thing. Kind of like the standard Hogue overmold I got out of the Cabelas bargain basement for my 29. Never use it. It uglifies an otherwise beautiful handgun. But I gave like $11 for it and its there if I ever do want it.
