Thinking about getting a Crimson Trace laser for my Shield, wondering if anybody has 1 on theirs?Crimson Trace Laserguard Red Laser Sight for S&W Shield Handgun | 4.6 Star Rating Free 2 Day Shipping w/ Free Shipping and Handling

I got 1 for my Keltec PF9 5 yrs. ago and is great, however the Keltec has a 1911 rail so that helps keep unit in place firmly but the Shield doesn't have a 1911 rail and while this unit actually snaps on the frame I do wonder how well its held securely on frame/gun?

I don't really care for any where U have to use finger to activate the on/off switch and with the Crimson it comes on as soon as my hand goes on grip.

I found some for about $155. and most likely will get 1 soon!

I have a Viridian RTL, light only, on my Shield. It is a tight fit. That being said, if I wanted a laser/light combo, it would hard to beat the sub $100 price of the Streamlight TLR6.

As far as I know the Crimson Trace is the only laser unit available with the instant on switch as soon as gun is held by the Grip!

If you look on Dvor.com (Optics Planet discount site) they have one for the 45 Shield for $150 plus $9.99 ship. The shipping is free for anything else you buy for 24 hours.

Thanks, found 1 on Amazon $150. free ship. Best deal in Town/Country?

My CCW Instructor told a story of when he was teaching a group of LE on advanced tactics a bunch showed up with lasers on their weapons. He asked what color they were and got a RED answer. Guess what color he put on all the targets? RED guess what you can't see a red laser on a red background. NEVER EVER trust anything that uses a battery it WILL go down just when your life depends on it!!

i have a tlr 6 and love it. Just make sure you factor in holster cost if it is your EDC. I was looking for just a laser when i stumbled onto the TLR6. So the flashlight was a bonus in my eyes.

OP mentioned that his/her other gun puts on the laser as soon as gripped. I personally am not crazy about that feature as i would rather turn on the laser/light on my own

What's the chance you'll met up with a renegade Mountie?

The Crimson Trace doesn't cover the iron sights. As long as it's working (4 hours on-time), it is the best thing for accurate point-shooting, even from a guarded low position. Using it at the range helps establish muscle-memory for point shooting, even if it should fail.

I agree with the above! The reason I like the instant on is I don't have to aim or flip/push a switch when I pull the gun, have watched some vids with some lasers push 1x then again to get light/laser functioning the way U want, but that takes time and if needed all I need is to point and pull trigger without aiming!

I found a better deal than Amazon since they wanted $13.00 in tax so on E-Bay there is 1 for $149.99 which includes a IWB holster, however I don't much care for Kydex holsters since most will scratch gun easily and all are stiff.

Crimson Trace Red Laserguard w/ IWB Blade-Tech Holster M&P Shield - LG-489-HBT | eBay

That holster sells for $30.00 or more at most places but??

Thanks, I like that 1 better than the Crimson and is a lot cheaper also and has a warrant 2 yrs. longer!

I do remember this type from 5 yrs. ago when I got the Crimson and at that time Armalaser had a sensor inside the trigger guard and if ur finger went in to trigger guard it would come on, but there were tons of issues with the sensor.

But there current set up seems a lot better, so I will get reviews and watch some vids and then most likely get it!?:)

Thanks again!

Maybe look at Viridian. They have a setup that activates the laser when drawn from certain holsters.

Never heard of that! Thank You everybody, just trying to save some $$ after getting both the 2.0 and the Shield within 2 weeks.

20 yrs. ago got a Lasermax for my Glock 27 replaced the recoil rod assembly and works fine after 22 yrs. the on/off lever replaced the take down lever on the Glock and is a great laser but it does take a good push to turn on by pushing lever in with trigger finger and pushing off from other side.

Issue is it takes a good push and unless U have a 2 hand grip on gun it easily pushes gun a few inches to the left if not used to having to hold gun really strong.

On my keltec PF9 the Crimson works great but it does decrease opening on trigger guard slightly and is not to easy to get finger on trigger with gloves, but seldom ever need any fortunately.

Will do more research and hope to get 1 next week.

Thanks

I bought a TLR-6 by Streamlight for my Shield 9mm along with a tulster holster. I love the TLR-6 because of the few and simple modes it has and also because my finger reaches the button perfectly. I don't like the grip style buttons nor the style where they automatically turn on. I like being in control of the light and not having to cycle through many modes. Plus, it isn't as bulky as the crimson trace. And the holster is awesome! I didn't get the universal model, i got the "shield" only model.

Seems there are only 2 that fit your criteria, the Armalasar and the CT. Whichever you buy, I'd highly suggest the green beam. We have a red laser on one gun, and the green CT on 2 of our Shields. The red washes out far easier in any kind of direct sunlight. The green is far better in that regard. Just ordered another green CT for my M&P 40C yesterday.

No offense, not putting down your choice here at all. But the Streamlight is for sure more bulky than the CT.

Item is SOLD..!!! I have the same unit but with the green laser and it was on my PC Shield for less than one month. Just removed it because my trainer recommended not having it with the grip on-off feature. I'm going to look for something else.

hdskullfire2, I don't understand why U would not use such a good laser because 1 person does not like the on/off feature? S&W have teamed up
with Crimson Trace and u can buy guns from S&W with Crimson lasers on them!

Everybody says even S&W the "Green" is better, however in my case I am so used to Red on my 3 lasers as well as 4 Red-Dots for 20+ yrs. I think I would have trouble getting used to Green when I am used to Red.

My 2nd reason is the Green 1's cost 2.5 X what the Red 1's do and seem to have a battery life about 1/2 that of a Red laser.

Streamlight makes great lights, have a TLR 3 light (only) on my SHTF gun and do like the up/down off/on switch.

The reason in my case is it's highly distracting. Always on..!! For me to CC it's not suitable. Gives away my position. I'd rather have something I can manually select on or off.

Steve..

I meant around the trigger guard. Weight wise I don't really notice a difference
