I would like to know if anyone at all, has an M&P 22 COMPACT Model
with a NON THREADED barrel?
I live in a restricted state that does not allow threaded barrels on anything.
I want to buy a Compact, and have been told by members of a local forum im a part of, that they have seen them. No one can give me a model number. Hmmm
I cant think of a better place to ask than this forum for some truth.
The S&W site show several models, but I dont see a compliant version.
Hoping there is.

I think you're out of luck. I tried Googling it but it appears Smith & Wesson doesn't make any NY-compliant models or an MP22C w/o a threaded barrel. Their list of state-compliant handguns can be found here: State Compliance | Smith & Wesson

One thread I came across mentioned an MP22C with a threaded barrel with no wrench slots on the cap, which in turn is glued in place. But they called it a unicorn which I guess is correct. I suggest calling S&W directly to see if they do anything like sell MP22Cs so modified to NY dealers.

I do not see any state compliant models but the 22 compact without a threaded barrel is SKU 108390. With a 10 round magazine and manual thumb safety it should be legal in all but the most gun hating states.

M&P(R)22 Compact | Smith & Wesson

Even though I live in a gun friendly state if I buy the M&P 22C I have been considering it will be with the non-threaded barrel. I mostly shoot at an indoor range or a private gun club I belong to. Even if I went through the paperwork to get a suppressor I would still be around too many other guns to not need hearing protection. I prefer the way the non-threaded model looks and don't want to worry about the thread protector coming loose.

Thank you all for the replies. Ranger 17 does the barrel on your gun appear to have no thread cap at all? Would it be possible for you to post a picture with the slide locked back?
Sorry for all the questions, but our local dealers will refuse to transfer the gun, even it appears to have a threaded barrel.

I see this model on the website, but it says threaded barrel under the list of features. I have reached out to S&W. Waiting for a response.
Thanks for the help

Here's a better pic. I have never seen in person or used a gun with a suppressor and have seen other compacts with a threaded cap (?) that extended from the end of the barrel/slide. So assumed mine was normal but if wrong and i have a threaded barrel then apologies. Also had no wrench in the box if that means anything.

Thanks for the picture. Even though no wrench in the box, your gun appears to have a threaded barrel. The cap on the end is removable.
Wow, I guess Im out of luck on this gun. Either that or I move to a free state. Lol
Again, thank you.

well guess I can learn something new every day lol.

Btw couldn't tell for sure from the image, but if your avatar is of a '66-67 Chevelle, very nice. I had a couple when i was a young pup in the late 70's and have always thought that was my fave body style from that muscle car era.

very nice ride......

If only i still had one of the 66's from my youth (or the 70 1/2 Camaro i had back then as well). Never considered that those cars would not always be around and be affordable..... but those weren't the only mistakes i made when i was young lol

I am 99.999% sure that my 22compact does not have the threaded barrel. I will try to check tonight if I have the box to get a model number. I bought it used and can’t remember for sure if the box came with it or not.

So there is a real threaded barrel edition that came out well after the Compact was introduced.

The original model has that small thread protector, which covers threads intended to be used as a base for an adapter, of which there are a few versions floating around. You could not attach a suppressor to the original model's "threading", because it does not extend out beyond the end of the slide.

I've never seen one that did not have that base and protector. And if you have never tried to take that protector off, you'll have "fun" trying. Lots of posts about what we went through to make that happen.

Interesting info. I'm assuming (if i understand correctly) that models like mine with that small cap on the barrel end may be "threaded" but are not necessarily "suppressor ready". Those would be the ones with the cap that extends beyond the slide end?

thx!

That is correct based on models I have seen.

Well, I was wrong in how I remembered my 22C. It has the threaded barrel. Apparently the style that you need an adapter to utilize a suppressor. I simply had not paid enough attention to the fact that my flush barrel indeed had a thread protector that is flush with the end of the slide.

When you put the adapter on the barrel to accept a suppressor you end up not being able to take the slide off to field strip the gun.

Even if the cap is a nightmare to remove, simply being there tells our NYS dealer that its threaded.
I should mention that I have a full size M&P 22 that is threaded. It was purchased long before our idiot governor passed the safe act.
It is registered on my pistol license, as are all of my hanguns. Our county has all make, model, caliber, and serial number registered to us.
Now no dealers will accept delivery on those models.

I think you meant "You have to unthread the adapter to field strip the gun." The adapter is not permanently affixed.
