So, these are clever and simple, but also kind of get on my nerves. Let's talk about this.

The M&P Shield 9 I got came with the 8 round mag with that adaptor sleeve at the bottom. Ostensibly this prevents over-insertion and maintains continuity with the grip shape. Which seems only reasonable, and thoughtful of them to include them.

I found the two included 17 round magazine adaptors included with the M&P9 2.0C also. Again, I appreciated the option and considered picking up a few 17 rounders to take advantage of them.

On the other hand, a sleeve adaptor has shortcomings. I found that when I carried one as a spare mag, the sleeve would inevitably come away from the basepad of the magazine. Sometimes when wearing an 8 round magazine as a spare on my belt, it would pinch my "problem areas" between the basepad and the sleeve. I guess I could use the longer mags without the sleeve, but then I would lose the benefit of the grip continuity, which is a bummer.

I've also heard of people gluing the sleeve to the basepad, which definitely appeals to me but would prevent me from disassembling the magazine later and in the case of the M&P9 17 round magazines with the sleeves glued would prevent using them in a full size M&P9.

If you look at the Kahr PM9 or CM9, they make a flush fitting 6 round magazine and an extended 7 rounder. The 7 round magazine has a basepad which shrouds the body of the magazine up to the grip. That seems more effective, although of course it doesn't let you use it in, for example, the CW9 with the slightly longer grip. Or maybe someone at S&W should have designed the sleeve to "lego" into the basepad somehow.

I guess I'm just ocd'ing the situation. I'll probably glue the sleeves to the basepads on the 8 round M&P Shield magazines and use only 15 round mags in the M&P9 2.0C. Forgive me if this has already been debated to death elsewhere.

Talon Grips for the mags will fix it; until you wanna break down the mags for cleaning which should be done.

I glued the sleeve to the magazine body, not the baseplate, using rubber cement that can easily be removed if I ever want them off. It's been a reasonable solution.

That's a good idea - think I will use it on all my bigger mags!

Off I go to Staples!

When i used full size mags with the adapter in my compact i wrapped a little elec tape underneath. Just enough to tighten it up, never had a prob after that.

The mag adapters moving is the only real problem I have with my 9mm Shield. I absolutely love it for CCW other than that. I really didn't want to bother with glue and hadn't thought about tape, I'll have to give that a try.

While I'm desperately trying to dump Glocks in favor of M&Ps, this is one area where I have to give Glock credit where it is due. If you look on the left side of the mag towards the rear, right where the mag starts to taper from dual stack to single stack, you will see a shelf with a flat area facing up. That shelf interacts with another one inside the frame to positively prevent overinsertion of magazines. No mag adapters to move and no worries about malfunctions or, possibly, damage to the gun from overinserting a magazine. With the Shield (and, I believe, the M&P Compacts), if you overinsert a magazine, the magazine smacks the bottom of the ejector and can bend or break it if inserted hard enough or often enough. With a Glock using an extended magazine, if you want to use an adapter for a smooth transition from the frame to the magazine, you can do that. They aren't necessary, however, to prevent overinsertion like they are with S&Ws. I've been wishing for a long time now that someone would bring out an extended baseplate like the above mentioned Kahr baseplate to do away with the mag adapters, no luck so far. Only a minor gripe, however, and not anywhere near enough to make me go back to Glock.

I have had my Shield 2.0 9mm for about a year now and I love it...except for this very fact of the magazine sleeve slipping. You would think by now S&W would realize this and have a fix. It just doesn't seem right for me to have to use duct tape, rubber cement, glue, or to purchase of another base to resolve a known issue.

On both my Shields and the 2.0 Compact magazines I applied just a very small dab of silicone sealer to the rear spine of the magazine and then slid the sleeve down, wiped off excess and let cure. So far the adaptors haven't budged but they can easily be forced off for cleaning.

I just got extended mag for my Shield9. And one of them has this slippage. have not seen it on my other 9 mags nor my Shield45 extended mags.
Will look into doing something as I have to use one of these this weekend in IDPA. Wife is using my full size for CCH class. She can't rack the Shields.

M&P Shield 8 round mag fix

I found on the internet a fix for this. Just search Magfix from Safety Solutions Academy. Haven't ordered one yet but looks as though it would work well.

I used Pachmayr mag sleeves for my M&P 1.0 Compact (now 2.0 Subcompact). The Pachmayr sleeves have a set screw to hold the sleeve in place. And, yes, people complain about the 17-round magazine's base plate protruding from the sleeve, but a smaller flat base plate for a 12-round magazine solves that problem (S&W sent me several for free).
