Is the Crimson Trace a useful feature? Does it add any value to the pistol?

If you have a Shield with the integrated Crimson Trace, can it be removed? Or is it a permanent feature?

I have a 9mm Shield 2.0 with the red C-T integrated laser. Nice feature; however, due to the way it is activated (by pressing a button in front of the trigger guard), it may not be available in an emergency, high stress situation. At home, you should have adequate time to grab your pistol and press the "on" button. The housing is integrated and cannot be removed. You can unscrew the actual laser and remove it when the barrel is removed.

We have lasers on every gun that might possibly be used for defense. Try this. Go to the range and shoot double taps from low ready. Shoot a box of 50 w/ the laser. Then turn the laser off and do the same w/ sights. Last time I did this I felt like I was going from modern current technique (laser) backwards to old school slower technique.

I only purchase pistols that have a CT laserguard, i.e. instant activation. One of the main reasons I switched over to SW from Glock. When SW bought CT, they stopped supplying lasers for other guns. SW has the most lasers available from CT.

My M&P Shield 9mm 1.0 came with a CT489g green laser attached. Wanted to add a light and bought a CT801g Laserguard Pro laser/light which is easily self-installed. It is also easily removed (3 screws). Used for more than 2 years now with no problems.

BTW, my EDC gun is an M&P9c w/ a CT laser grip. The reason I won't consider a 2.0 is because CT doesn't make a laser grip for them. I have lasers that clamp onto the rail on several other pistols but my carry gun has to have an instant activation laser.
