On youtube, TheYankeeMarshal did a rant titled "F#@K Smith & Wesson!!!...Customer Service FAIL! Unsafe Product?" In the youtube comments, there was also a lot of negativity about S&W customer service.

Is S&W customer service genuinely horrible, or are negative experiences the exception?

From my personal experience the S&W CS has been excellent. Many others here will have similar comments, and others will disagree. This topic comes up about once every month or two. Try doing a search.
A common thread among many negative comments seems to be the way that people approach the situation. Hot heads and foul people don't get good customer service from me, either.

My singular experience w/S&W customer service was very satisfactory, but I was respectful on the phone & in follow up emails. Guess mom was right about how you treat people. The Yankee Marshall, although knowledgable, comes across as kind of silly, at least to me.

Every experience I've had with S&W's customer service has also been excellent. They've always been courteous, professional, and have handled the problem right away and sent me any needed parts free of charge.

I have had problems with them, last one was during covert.

How many of you checked your M&P to see if it would dry fire out of battery? Two of mine won't the the plus is loaded so I'll check it later.

No problems with CS. I’ve had 4 occasions to contact CS regarding issues with older guns and had very satisfactory outcomes. I’d give them 5 stars.

First off, this guy just doesn’t come across as credible. Remember, most of these YouTube “experts” are monetized - they get paid for views - so exaggerated claims and issues to generate views are the order of the day. The real question is: how many times have we seen this exact issue? If there was a real “safety” problem with the M&Ps I would expect to find numerous accounts of the same issue … which I haven’t.

KBs can happen (and have happened) in all kinds of platforms. Look around and you’ll find accounts in Berettas, Glocks, Sigs, etc. I suspect in almost all of those cases it was really an ammunition issue or an isolated failure in a particular gun. The sky is not falling.

While I have been happy with SW’s cs, I am sure others are not. Let’s face it, produce and sell millions of any item and some will have problems. Now add in staffing issues at so many businesses which can affect the level of support and service that we customers expect and businesses want as well.
Then of course as so often can happen, bad news and reviews travel faster than good. Just how it works.
So until the world gets back on track (can’t say “normal” as that may not happen), if we customers can be patient and retailers/manufacturers can focus on support and training, positive outcomes may be easier to get to.

somewhat depends on who you get on the phone call

Like my title says...it can depend on who you get on the phone. It can be hit or miss.

My interactions have been generally good with good results but once I got a man on the phone who was clearly "hassled" or hadn't got his coffee yet, or the boss wanted a report or something, etc. et. al. ad infinitum. He was very brisk and short tempered...blew off my request for a owners manual on a current series M&P 2.0 Compact.

A call again same day but hours later I got another agent who gladly took my address, and sent one right out.

Other requests for information over the years have been handled very satisfactorily in my opinion. Before I found this Forum I used to ask really dumb questions, like "what accessories would have been packed at the factory with my 1971 Model 36?" I know they probably didn't have a digital answer immediately in front of them on a computer, but I was never on hold for more than a few minutes and I'd get an answer!

Like others have said already, I think it can also depend on how you act on the phone too...come across as belligerent and you may get the same in return..do they "owe" you an answer?

Just my two cents.

S&W Customer Service Quality?

I blocked the Yankee Marshall on YouTube a few years ago. His rants are just to get views.

Many many years ago I had an excellent experience with them. About 4-5 years ago I tried to order a part, off of a S&W schematic, and the lady was CLUELESS. I don't mean " I'm sorry, that part is out of stock" I mean like she not only couldn't find the part, but she had never even heard of that part.

So I gues I'm a solid "Meh??"

I have had many problems with them as of late over a CSX, which I have covered in detail in another thread, but I had heard great things about them in the past.

Someone in that thread made the guess that some employees are angry over the upcoming move to Tennessee, and that seems like a likely explanation to me. But that's very recent history, I am sure they were great in the past, which makes it extra disappointing to me.

I'm in the crowd that can't stand even a second of Yankee Marshall the Gas-Bag. M&Ps don't have a problem, it's the Youtube Blowhards that do.

Three weeks ago I contacted them via the website. I didn't speak to anyone.
2 days later I got an email with a prepaid label to send back a mag.
Got a new mag in the mail a week or so later. Some times it the approach or tone.

Had a good experience with them in 2015 and an abysmal experience last year. Lately I hear more bad experiences on this board, but your mileage may vary. Personally I will no longer be purchasing any new smith and wesson products (old stuff is of course still very much on my radar). Too many manufacturers with good products and CS to deal with that nonsense again.

I've ever owned 2 automatics and one was a m&:p 40 with no problems ever occurring.

The few times that I've dealt with s&w customer service, I had no problems, including a 2 week trip to replace a barrel.

The plural of anecdote is, indeed, statistics. They're just extremely limited stats with loose definitions. For this reason, the same people who say smith has all of the problems will also say that Glocks never have problems. All guns from all manufacturers have problems all the time, some designs more than others.

Just so everybody knows, customer service is a lady in a call center that knows nothing about the product except the script they were taught over a few days of training. If they know anything, it's because they been there a while.
