Got the chance to shoot a 9mm M&P9 Shield 2.0, and I liked it a tad more than my M&P9 Shield 1.0.
I "think" that I want to upgrade to the 2.0, but not sure if the differences, except for the trigger are worth the changeover or just upgrade the trigger in the 1.0 with an Apex or similar.

For those who have both or upgraded to the 2.0, was it worth it to you to do that or should you have just upgraded the trigger?

Also, it seems that ssguiderod is out of business, so for those who have upgraded their 2.0 guide rod, what brand did you get?

Thanks in advance for your replies.

The M2.0 has a different trigger overtravel stop behind the trigger that the M1.0 does not have
The M2.0 also has a 10 degree angle on the end of the striker that the M1.0 doesn't have
You can up-grade the triggers on both to the flat Plus Trigger but they work best on the M2.0 because of the overtravel stop
All parts from the each can be swapped
The M2.0 has the more aggressive grip texture as well which makes them really grippy

I never saw the need to replace the recoil spring with anything but a factory unit, call S&W & they will send you a new one FREE
M1.0 & M2.0 recoil springs are the same 9mm & 40 S&W
Shield Plus recoil springs are a different rating, springs are green on the 1.0 & 2.0 & red on the Plus JFYI

Best M&P Shield Trigger I have ever found was in my Shield Plus Performance Center, it is the one all others are judged on...

My 1.0 has an SS Guide Rod, it makes it easier to rack the slide with my old arthritic hands.

Does the 1.0 and 2.0 have the same trigger? I was under the impression that they were different. The M&P9 Shield 2.0 sure felt different to me.

I bought a 2.0 and regulated the 1.0 to backup status

I see no reason to throw money at a 1.0 when you could buy a 2.0 instead. And I see no reason to buy a 2.0 when you could have the Plus.

Or, a SCCY DVG-1 with 2 x 10 round magazines, a true "lifetime warranty" & for $149.99 (or there abouts?) after rebate: less than the cost of an Apex Action Enhancement Trigger & Duty/Carry Kit for the 1.0...

Cheers!

The triggers in the 1.0 & 2.0 are similar but different side by side
The difference I could see was the hinged area at the bottom
That 10-degree bevel on the striker is the main difference
Performance Center Shields/Plusses have lighter weight trigger return springs + sear spring & striker springs as well as a beveled rounded striker safety plunger
A PC M1.0 compared to a PC Plus is night & day difference in the trigger smoothness & pull weight

Assuming that you either aren’t interested in the latest “Shield Plus” model, or your state laws regarding capacity won’t allow it, I would definitely recommend the Shield M2.0 over the original Shield. When you really think about it, the trigger and the grip are the two aspects of a pistol that likely play the largest role in determining how a gun “feels” to you. The M2.0 took the excellent M&P Shield, and added a more aggressive grip texture along with a greatly improved trigger.

As someone whose state has no capacity restrictions, I still haven’t bothered to “upgrade” my M2.0 to the new “plus” model simply because I don’t have a need to. The way I see things, the trigger on the Shield M2.0 is plenty good enough for self defense purposes, and I’ve got the larger M&P M2.0 Compact for those times when I feel like I need 15+1 rounds of ammunition onboard.

I need to keep life simple.
Never had the intention of changing the trigger on my M&P9 1.0.
Due to age and finances, and it's intended purpose the M&P9 2.0 is a better fit, than a Shield plus. And living in the not so great state of Maryland magazines are limited to ten rounds. The silly law does allow me to go out of state and buy "Hi Capacity" magazines and take them home, but don't have one in your pistol if you use it for self defense.
As for looking at other options and brands, if I decided to keep the 1.0 as a backup I can use the same magazines in both pistols.
That being said, IF I find the need (SHTF) for more than 8 (+1) rounds I have a full size 1990 Taurus PT 99 AF that has never had one failure of any kind with thousands of rounds down range.

She who rules the house and myself both prefer our 1.0’s that we upgraded with APEX Duty Trigger Kit and Truglo Fiber Optic sights. We don’t like the aggressive grip of the 2.0 and feel the APEX Trigger is better.

Actually, I need to 'fess up. I own two (2) Shields. A 1.0 totally original which I "thought" needed to be upgraded. So I bought a new Plus @ local Scheels for $399. Still have the 1.0 which I don't shoot quite as well as the new Plus, but will keep as a good backup. So, was it a mistake to try to replace the 1.0?
In hindsight, there are "needs" & "wants" ... the Plus purchase was a "want" ... did I "need" the Plus: honestly, No. Your mileage may vary.

I think you should spend the money on ammo and go shoot the Gen 1 Shield and enjoy that great pistol.

I thought this too. Don't really need another pistol (just want one) or more ammo.
It's probably in my best interests to just save my money.

Thanks for all the replies. Any more would just be redundant.

I wouldn't put any money into a 1.0 gun that will never pay for itself if you were to sell it or trade it down the road. The 2.0 is a better gun and the + has its advantages. You can always sand down the grips or add a cover if too aggressive for you. I bought a + last year for $389.
Or if you keep the 1.0 as is, buy lots of ammo since it is a nice gun.

I really like my 1.0 9Shield having had a Sigma in the past, I'm used to the trigger as is. It's flat and thin and I can carry it in a front pocket. I carry it a lot more than my P365 I guess I've always been a "stock" guy for guns and automobiles. When something works 100% why screw around with it? Just me being me.

I’ve owned and shot extensively the Shield 1.0, 2.0, and the Plus. For my money, it’s an easy call to go with the Plus for the outstanding trigger and higher capacity. I run it with Talon Grips so the more aggressive texture is a nonissue for me.

I have a 1.0 that I paid about $200 for. It works great, it always goes bang, & I’m not interested in putting a penny into it. Working at the LGS I’ve learned when you trade in a gun, we don’t pay extra for any changes the customer made to the gun. Matter of fact, we encourage the customer to remove the accessories, return the gun to bone stock, & we’ll give them the same $. Then they can sell the accessories separately and end up with more $. For those who threw out the factory parts they replaced, too bad. You never get back what you paid to upgrade a gun. So my 1.0 will never be upgraded, as it works just fine as a defense weapon as is. GARY.
