This is my first post so hope it's done right. I'm about to purchase a n M&P in 10mm. and really like the "performance center" model but wonder if it's really more cosmetic or is a step up, and how. Also, I haven't found a single owb for it.

Comparing the PC (SKU 13915) to the closest non-PC 10mm (SKU 13388), you're getting an extra inch of barrel length (5.6" vs 4.6"), which will give you a little more velocity. It might be as low as 20-30 fps extra on the 10mm loads that are basically .40 S&W loads, or it could be 75-100 fps on the hotter 10mm loads.

Other than that, PC M&Ps were generally differentiated by coming with a more rounded profile striker block and a machined trigger sear that are pretty similar to the Apex aftermarket parts. This isn't a firm rule though; I bought a regular 2.0C this year that had the more rounded profile striker block, which gives the trigger less of a 'wall' in the feel, and more of a rolling break.

It's only a $70 difference in MSRP, which is less than what the Apex sear and striker block would cost you to do afterwards.

Before you pull that trigger (pun intended), take a look at the Springfield Armory XDM 10mm.

The XDM comes with a match-grade barrel, fully supported barrel & fiber optic front sight. Models are both with or without a threaded bbl. Optic or not, three different length barrels. Much, much better trigger than the Smith as well.

Is this your first 10mm?

Thanks to both of you..Beju, sounds like you know your stuff. I saw one for 699.00 and think a standard full-size is 525.?? I'll have to ponder that one. Bobsguns, I just started searching Springfield's and it's saying "10 mm. discontinued".

Springfield is a bit like SIG or CZ in that they constantly kill off SKUs and sometimes replace them with slightly revised variants.

XD-M Elite, SKU XDME94510BHCOSP is the current, 16 round mag, optics ready pistol. I'm seeing guns.com having the cheapest current price at $566, but Bass Pro/Cabela's is currently $600 for black and $650 for FDE.

Cheapest I'm seeing the M&P 10mm PC is $619 at Gunbuyer.com Smoky Mountain Guns and Ammo has the basic M&P 10mm for $450, so there are bigger deals on the basic 4.6" model, which also has better holster support.

I don't have trigger time on the 10mm versions of either pistol, so I can't really recommend one over the other from a shooting perspective.

Depends on your intended purpose. I chose the PC version because it was ported and primarily a woods/ATV firearm and have been pleased w/ it. From the s&w website, all the M&P 10mms are optics ready and come w/ fixed sights that can be used with or without an optic mounted. I would think most holsters would work unless they're barrel length specific. If you're mounting an optic, keep that in mind when buying a holster. Mine is carried in a chest rig, which works great for its intended purpose.

That said, not a fan of the stock recoil spring weight or factory optic plates. Seems most of the 10mms I've handled have light recoil springs. I'm running a 24lb galloway precision in mine; as well as, a C&H Precision optics plate. Recently added a Floyds Custom magwell on a whim and like the fit/feel. Pleased with accuracy and reliability.

Can't speak for recent Springfields. Did own an XDS-45 a while back and it was "okay", no longer in my possession. Friend did buy an XDM 10mm and after firing it a bit said it didn't fit him like he thought it would. Doesn't mean it isn't a quality firearm, just means you don't know about any firearm until few range sessions.

I bought a 4 inch M&P 10 mm about a year and a half ago and it has become my favorite gun! I didn’t like the tall goofy sites at first, but they are so easy to see I shoot better with it than any other handgun I own and the recoil is not bad at all. The trigger is better than any striker fired gun I’ve ever shot including my two Sig 365s, but I think I got lucky because some people don’t have great triggers. Based on my gun, I don’t see a need for the performance center model because mine is extremely accurate.

I just bought the model 13388 and shot it yesterday for the first time. I shot a pretty good group at 15 yards with mag tech 180 gr. I really like it so far and recoil isn’t as much as I thought it would be. I have the same size gun in 45 and it shoots really good groups so I got this one since it is the same size frame. Ordered from sportsman’s outdoor superstore for 459 and free shipping. I also have a performance center 9mm but don’t really notice it being much better.

S&W did the opposite of Glock with their optics ready guns; instead of giving you sights that become useless when you mount an optic like Glock, S&W gives you sights that are usable as backup sights for most optics (though taller than most prefer for the Holosun SCS). FWIW, the wide variance in 10mm loads from glorified .40 S&W to bear defense loads arguably makes an optic even more useful with 10mm than more common semi-auto self-defense calibers.

As far as triggers, some M&Ps have roughness on the trigger bars where they engage the striker block. Some also have rough striker block faces and/or striker block channels. They break in pretty quickly, but a lot of guys get set on replacing the triggers immediately.

Good to hear, that Magtech 180 gr load isn't a super hot 10mm load, but it isn't just a slightly hotter 40 S&W like the American Eagle 180 gr 10mm load.

I have an M&P 10mm M2.0 (4.6" barrel).

It's been completely reliable with both Underwood ammo as well as my handloads.

I use CFE Pistol powder, loading 8.2gr behind a polymer coated slug. Hodgdon's starting load is 8.0 gr, max is 8.9. I get 1369fps/645 ft lbs out of it.

I have a Hogue grip sleeve that makes repeat shots faster.

I'll say I had a Springfield XDM in 10mm and quickly sold it. I found that the grip safety often activated when I didn't want it or didn't activate when I did want it.

Thought the S&W was vastly superior. Don

Love my 10's. First was a SA Ronin 5" and what an accurate shooter. My next buy was a Tisas Yukon, commander size and after a little polishing is a great compact 10 and being the Lipsey version is truly beautiful. My latest is the Performance Center 10mm 5.6 inch. It is as accurate as the Ronin, holds almost twice the rounds and so far has fired everything I fed it. The trigger is not 1911 but is fine none the less. Hornady Hunter 135gr are reaching 1300fps range. I always thought I would carry the Ronin in the woods because it handled the Buffalo Bore hard cast so well, but I am going to start trying some big fat hard cast in the Smith. We will see how it does. Am I resurrecting a ghost, this thread is old?

Good timing on this thread for me, I just picked mine up yesterday. It's a bit unorthodox looking but growing on me. Shot 10 rounds today one handed as I'm in recovery from shoulder surgery. Will give mine a good workout in 2 weeks when this sling comes off. That will include my Glock 20 reload using a 200 grain hardcast lead @ 1150 fps.

Tisas are very good value for the money. Grabagun had Yukons on sale for a ridiculous price and a friend picked up one. Like potato chips, can't have just one. My Nighstalker SF in 10mm just eats, super accurate. All my Tisas have ed brown trigger kits and are money. Still mostly carry the PC 10mm in the woods because of weight.
