Shield Plus

That's a puzzling question since Crimson Trace makes red dots. Are you asking if you should get a laser sight or a dot optic?

I would go with the dot optic and actually prefer a Crimson Trace RAD Micro green dot on a Shield Plus. Direct install, no plate required, co-witness, reasonable price and it even comes with the correct screws.

Old school Fudd answer. Neither on a Micro 9 intended for concealed carry :D

I've got dot optics on both of mine. Both Holosun K series. Both required an adapter plate between the slide and the optic (because the slides were made for a different optic).

A laser doesn't have a long battery life. A K series Holosun battery can last 3 years or more.

A laser has to be turned on (more in a minute) while the Holosun is always on when I pick it up. Most lasers have an on/off button that you have to press with one of your fingers. A very few have a sensor in part of the laser frame that fits around the bottom of the trigger guard that senses your middle finger as you grip the pistol and that turns the laser on.

A laser throws out a dot on whatever the muzzle points at when it's on. The dot optic does not. You can see the dot on the target with either one but the dot optic isn't visible to the target unless you're at spitting distance to the target and the target is looking at you.

I carry a Shield Plus 9MM with a 4" barrel and dot optic every day. It's easy to forget it's there it's so small and so light compared to the compact pistol I carried the previous 10 or 12 years.

Like what you like, shoot/carry what you want. I do. A Shield Plus with a dot optic on it.

Might be harder find a holster for a pistol with a laser on it.

Red dot sight or crimson trace Laser?

Red dot all the way. Accuracy improves dramatically when you are practicing at the range almost instantly (no stress, plenty of time to fire). When thinking about carrying, the red dot still wins but you must practice your draw and fire to bring up your acquisition speed. Getting a big dot helps too (I have the EPS carry with a 32/2 dot).
