Hello all! Thought I'd share my experience buying a BG 2.0 from Cabelas a few weeks back. After careful consideration i decided on the 2.0 for a small, easily concealable, personal self defense weapon. I carried a kel-tec .40 cal for years but decided on the S&W after reading about it online. I also read about the safety switch issues but originally was planning on a NTS model so that wasn't a big deal. I checked if it was in stock online and off I went to Cabelas. I waited my turn, told the clerk what I wanted and he put the BG with safety on the counter. I told him I was looking for the one without the safe and he put a completely different model next to the BG. I pointed it out and he said they must not have the one I was looking for. I said the online site said it was in stock but he told me you cant go by that. Driving to the store I decided to get the one with the safety so i picked up the one he had placed on the counter and worked the safe. It was crisp and had total swing. I told him I would take one and he brought one from the back. I asked to see it and couldn't get the safe to move a total swing. It stopped halfway and got stuck. I mentioned that I had read about issues with the safes but he said he never heard about them. I told him I would buy the display one but didn't want the one he brought from the back. He told me he would get me another one and was in the back for an unusual amount of time. He finally came out with one and told me they had opened 4 units that they couldn't even move the safes and his boss told them to pull them from the shelves. The one I ended up buying was stiff but in working it has loosened up nicely. I can't even tell you how pissed I would have been to get home only to find out the safe was messed up. Front site is noticeably off center and I had a hard time reassembling it because of the spring / rod. I guess thats what you get when these things are mass produced and QC is obviously questionable. Sorry for the longwinded rant.

The safeTY is stiff; you wouldn't want it moving on its own, in either direction.
Go shoot your gun, see what you think.

Paragraphs would make for an easier read.

Welcome aboard the forum.

I see you are a Junior Member. I’m not sure what that means, but you can look forward to gaining lots of good information from some very knowledgeable “senior” (old fart) members here.

Thank you for sharing your buying experience. Anecdotal opinions are often more accurate and real than some highly paid “scientific” study. Like Plato said, “Opinion is the medium between knowledge and ignorance."

As you may have read there is lots of good information on what changes can be made to a BG2 that has issues out of the box.

If you plan to pocket carry, the Muddy River Tactical kydex holster is an excellent choice.

Regarding your firearm terminology and English grammar, I knew a man who was a genius at building race-winning engines, his grammar was less than perfect, and he could not spell carburetor in the automobile forum he posted on. I eagerly read every one of his comments. :D

Welcome to the Forum.

As a purchaser of the BG 2.0, I know the ins and outs of dealing with problems that just shouldn't be. Nevertheless, it's turned out to be a quality handgun that is in my regular rotation.

Per your post, I think the sights stink and mine were replaced with XS R3D green sights and I have no complaints. I went through 5 recoil springs/rods until I got a good one from S&W (after sending the gun back). As another member here posted, this is the worst and most outrageous introduction of a new handgun (we) have ever seen, despite the fact that some folks seem to have gotten ones that just work.

Shoot it a lot and after 500 rounds re-assess. Unless you are plagued with difficulties, I think you will find it to be a winner.

Let us know, please, about how it performs for you.

Personally, only use the safety for administrative stuff; stashing it on the shelf above my bunk at camp, securing it in a lockbox.
The rest of the time it stays off, and I'd rather it stay tight, than become too easy to move. It's a striker gun, with a firing pin block, and a trigger doozit. It won't go off without pulling the trigger, and 'brushing' it won't signify. Now, something getting inside the guard is another matter, and has to be avoided, whether a BG2.0 or a G42.
