Hey, I'm a new member here and was thinking of buying a M&P 15 PC. I am mainly going to use it for varmit hunting but would like to know what kind of accuracy that I could expect from it out to 300 or so yards. It has also been suggested that I look at a Rock River Arms rifle. What ever ya'll could tell me would be greatly appreciated. Kevin

Unfortunately the 15 PC gets very few reviews and little attention. I have one, and honestly, I don't care for it that much. With my best handload that the rifle likes, on a good day, I can pull 1 MOA accuracy at 100 yards. I have groups in my notes ranging from .27" to over 1 inch, it is not consistently impressive. It is a good rifle and well built, but the barrels on these guns are most definitely factory and should not be considered extremely accurate. If you can get another rifle with a better barrel at a similar price point, I would strongly consider it.

The twist rate in mine is 1/8, which is okay, but there is no good reason to have it over a 1/7. 69gr bullets shoot well, but not 77gr in my rifle.

I will say the trigger on the rifle is good, probably half a pound heavier than it should be but extremely clean.

Welcome to the forum. Hope that helps.

M&P 15 PC Accuracy

Hi I just joined, I too am a little befuddled by the PC, I've shot .25 5 shot groups at 100 yrds. one day and 1.5" the next. My groups seemed to float, right, left, up, down. So the jury is still out for me. May be a scope issue. I am not sure. Any body else get this kind of inconstancy?

The 1.5" groups at 100 yds. from a 16" bbl. are themselves pretty great indication of accuracy being good. The .25 " group (s) I would consider the equivalent of a hole in one in golf. Of course, I am not the worlds greatest shot but you just might be.:)

I just bought one yesterday. Hopefully I can get to the range next weekend. I bought a front flip up site and a rear carry handle/site. I love the look of it. I hope it shoots good for me. I really like the look and feel. I held a Bushmaster that looked nice and already had the sites and carry handle. It was nice but was surprisingly heavy compared to the M&P 15 PC and I really didn't like that the front site is pretty much fixed on. The trigger didn't feel as nice as the M&P. I think I made the right choose.

I traded off my M&P 15 PC over the weekend. I'm kind of glad to have it gone, I was tired of putting time and effort in to a rifle that was more expensive and less accurate than some of my others. It was a good looking gun, very nice trigger. It just needed a better barrel, and something more stable to shoot with than the skeleton stock.

M&P's are pretty expensive for what you get (or don't get as the case may be). However, expecting match-grade accuracy (what you appeared to expect) from a production line gun is a bit unreasonable. If you want something MUCH better, you almost have to build it from scratch if you want to keep the prices out of the stratosphere. IMHO, a rifle with a 16-inch barrel shouldn't be expected to shoot single-hole groups. IMHO, 1.5 inches at 100 yards is pretty darned good.

I've seen guys hit targets at 600 meters with a standard AR-15. *I* can't do that (hell - I can't see much past 150 yards without substantial visual amplification), but I've seen it done.

Hello I have been looking at a used one of these. Is the upper and lower reciever of the skeleton stock version indeed billet?

Thanks
