Actually, that "Steve's" version is wrong. "AR" stands for " ArmaLite Rifle," not " ARmaLite"...

Main point is it DOES NOT STAND FOR AUTOMATIC RIFLE.
The name is derived from ArmaLite (Rifle for the sticklers amoung us ) NOT Auto anything.
