Every so often someone asks what the K in ATK stands for, so for any who are curious here it is.

It doesn't mean anything.

Several years ago the then CEO of Alliant Tech wanted better name/brand recognition for investment reasons, so he ordered a name change to ATK to correspond to the stock market symbol for Alliant Techsystems which was, and is, ATK.

Just that simple. Got this from a customer who has been with ATK for several years.

I've gotta admit, I have been curious about that.

Thanks for sharing.

I notice also that their stock price has lost about 10% over the past year, when everything else is down about two-thirds. I'd say they're doing better than the economy as a whole right now.

Actually, I don't think the "K" means anything when it comes to the name of the company. Alliant Techsystems Inc. uses the Ticker Symbol "ATK" on the NYSE so they also use those 3 letters for their shortened corporate name. But that's just a guess on my part...

Obviously you didn't read the original post, did you!!!!!!!!!!! It wasn't a question.

I thought I read your post correctly but it looks different now.

Did it actually bother you that I agreed with what you said? (even though I didn't realize you said it lol)

Not surprised that their stock has held up, they've had a lot of business, Iraq and Afghanistan as well as rebuilding depleted military inventories.

Add to that the much more lucrative larger military ordnance items and the $$$$$$$ come in.

I wish them well! Don
