I recently purchased an SD 9 VE pistol and the dealer told me that Sigma magazines will fit and function in this pistol. S&W will neither confirm or denie this. So, does anyone know for sure ? The reason why I need to know is because I live in a state that restricts hi caps unless they are pre-ban and I can get a good deal on a few old 17 round Sigma magazines.
thanks

there are tons of threads about this just on this forum the search function is your friend....short answer yes

Look closely at the magazine in my SD. It is a Sigma magazine with the ice scraper base. The magazines are interchangable.

Yeah, they interchange. The only difference that I know of is the shape of the base plate and the color of the follower..

Ditto Marlin357. I have White Followers on all 7 of my SD and Sigma mags.

Best Regards,

The followers are different but function 100%.....for me at least

Thanks for the feedback, interesting, could you post photos of the two followers side-by-side? Wondering if they extended the skirt in front to keep the rear of the follower from tipping down. Had the follower tip once or twice and hold the slide open with one round still in the mag.

Note we should make a sticky about the Sigma/SD mags

The black follower is the SD, the mag bodies are exactly the same only difference is follower and base plate. They modified the SD follower by extending front and rear legs to help with follower tilt.

Thanks! Just what I was looking for!

Here is what I dot get the SD follower is a perfect fit but the sigma follower is shorter front to back and teh notches in the front dont fit as well. Its like the mag body was made just for the SD and not the sigma.

Did S&W ever make 15rd NJ mags for the sigma/SD? They make them for the M&P.

I think it's the other way around, the (new and improved) SD follower is made to fit the mag tube better than the old Sigma follower. I think the mag tube is the same between the SD and Sigma, in 9mm anyway.

The 4506 magazines had multiple mag follower and at least one mag tube design. yellow, orange black....

formula11: The original 15 rd mags were legal in Jersey since they came out long before "it's a crime bill" in 1994. So SW did not make NJ mags. It was a time before stupidity reigned!!!!

If you still have 16 rd sw9ve magazines and want to swap for sd9ve mags let me know.

Good luck finding either mag!

My belief is that the mag tube is the same for the respective calibers, but they have different floor plates and perhaps followers. That means that a mag for one will not match the contours of the bottom of the grip frame of the other. Otherwise, I think they will lock in and function. I have not tried this personally, but it is what I have read. Thus, try it before you buy!
