If you install your trigger into your SD and it does not engage sear, try to squeeze your frame on the side of where the trigger bar is. You will squeeze right where it says "Capable of firing" while your finger is holding the trigger. If once the trigger is installed and it does not fire until you press on that spot, then you need to do this OR call Apex and ask them what they would like for you to do. I am writing this since this is what has helped me to get it to work in my gun and I am in no way responsible if you mess your trigger up or shoot yourself.. I do not think it is fair that I had to do this in order for it to fit but it seems like the frames have some slight changes to them and not everyone is going to fit the same trigger. I would really like to try some other items from Apex to see what all I can improve on my SD40VE but $ does not allow that :(

Here are some shots of my modified to fit AET trigger on my SD40VE. I MAY still send it to APEX if Scott is willing to look at it. IF you have to do this, make sure you keep the curve of the trigger landing that rests against the frame or you will have a gap and will not fit properly.

This is the area you will have to LIGHTLY file

You HAVE to keep the slight curve of the landing so it fits the frame nicely!

Take a rubber band or something to depress the safety so you do NOT file it!! It should look like this before filing!!

Finished with filing

Same curves, just a tad shaved off for just the right amount of over travel for proper function.

Fits like a glove!

Nice Job there and great pics.

Good pics are needed for a complete explanation. If you can't see what you are looking at, what is the use.. LOL. I HATE when trying to do something and going by pictures and you are clueless if you can't see them..

I just installed the springs and trigger in my 6-week old SD9VE and had the same issue that you reported. I spent some time filing on the back of the trigger where it meets the frame,as you suggested, and it's working OK now. I don't know whether the problem is caused by a batch of triggers that APEX is shipping or whether it is caused by some of the frames that S&W is using. Whatever it is, somthing has apparently changed. If S&W had built in some adjustment into the back of the trigger bar, like they did on the M&P's, it wouldn't be a big deal, but they didn't. I tried to contact the guys at APEX yesterday afternoon to discuss with them, but they were all on the phone. Maybe they will get back to me today. BTW, the trigger pull went from 8 lbs down to a little over 5 pounds with the new parts.

I had spoke to Scott (Flork on here) the other day and he stated to me that the triggers were made to fit the frames as best as possible and that in some cases, filing was needed for the "perfect" fit. Some of the frames may have excess material in certain areas that they can not foresee and which in our cases needed modification for that just right fix!

I am glad my "tutorial" has helped you and I hope you like your new trigger as much as I do now that it works! ;)

I never did hear back from the Apex guys, but I did add a comment on their website regarding the issue. I also suggested that anybody else experiencing the problem may want to take a look at the S&W forums for your suggestion on how to fix the problem.

Thank you for the fix! I had to do it to both my wife's and my SD40VE 's. Worked like a charm and what a difference. Spoke to Steve at Apex this evening and he confirmed that this is the Apex Tactical approved way of fitting the new polymer trigger to the firearm if needed. Thanks again very happy with the results. What a great gun!
