Greetings. Finally had the chance to fire a "new to me" S&W 422, 6 inch barrel today. It shot great and was very accurate but I do need to adjust the sights a bit. Can anyone tell me which directions the elevation/windage screws need to be turned to make changes, i.e. which direction to go left/right & up/down? Also, the magazines worked well but they got fairly dirty, are they designed to break down or are they not user serviceable? Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide.

It's been awhile since I had a 422, but I do not remember being able to take the mags apart. I routinely disassemble mags for cleaning and do not recall ever doing so with the 422 mags.

I have a 2206, and don't see anyway to disassemble mags easily. What I do is soak is in Breakfree CLP and let it set for awhile. Then pull the plunger down like you were loading the mag, and use a q-tip to clean up and residue/debris that is on the inside of the mag. Once the q-tips don't come out dirty, I wipe it down and spray with Rem Oil without the nozzle. That way it is coated inside and out with oil.

As for the sights, I think if you adjust the rear so that it moves to the left it will make you adjust and shoot to the right, and vice versa. For the elevation, you adjust it up to lower your POA. So I believe you adjust it opposite of what it is doing to change your POI. I could have it backwards, haven't had enough coffee yet.

Update

It will depend on if the magazines are S&W OEM. How do you know if is a true OEM? The only difference that I can tell, is that the OEM will show the total round count on both side of the magazine ie.. 7 or 8(2214mags) 10(422/622). The 12rd. magazines do not brake down. The others will.

UPDATE: 3-20-10

I stand corrected on the magazine brake down and cleaning. Please see this post - Cleaning the "New" 41 Mags - RimfireCentral.com Forums

Move your rear sight in the direction you want your group to go. If it shoots left, move the sight to the right looking from the rear of the pistol. If it shoots high, move the sight down, etc.
