Does anyone know a good way to clean the rust off the slide of a S&W 908, or at least a way to slow down new rust creation?

I've been carrying for months in a Uncle Mike size 4 pocket holster, and just switched to a High Noon Split Decision. After four days, there is some rather heavy rust on the front of the slide; it looks like the "Smith & Wesson" label was written in brown marker, and there is a significant amount of pitting around that area. I'm sure the new rust is holster related, I'm just not sure how to repair the damage. The High Noon holster is already heading for the trash.

IRAM;
Just repeating what I've read here, about leather holsters.
They've got some acids in the material, and can rust a gun if it's not
protected. You might want to hang on to that holster that just bit you.
Please let us know how the rust removal works out.

There are different tanning methods that use acid or salt, I don't know what else is used but I do know that a quality leather holster will not cause this to happen.

I seem to recall reading an article about making a strong baking soda and warm water solution and dunking the holster in it until it stops fizzing. Then rinse the holster well, and let dry.
