New semis from Smith?
I was just over at the Firing Line forum site and a poster there has a link to Lipseys showing two semis from Smith that he (and I) have never heard of. They are something called the "Self-Defense Series" and come in 9mm and 40 Smith. The photos posted by Lipseys show a black polycarbonate framed gun with a black slide that looks a little like a cross between an M & P and a Sigma. It appears to be striker fired. The trigger looks like an M & P trigger but the gun is described as DAO. The grip frame reminds me more of an M & P than of a Sigma but it lacks the beavertail that's built into the M & P frame. The gun comes with a built in accessory rail and with metal sights. Apparently, the front sight has a tritium insert. Anyone heard about these?

new semi's
Perhaps they were the new bodyguard series, which are in 380 and 38
both a semi and a revolver are new
they have crimson trace red dot built in
you can see them on the smith & wesson homepage

It is a cross between the Sigma and the M&P for lack of a better description. I don't know if this is designed to replace the Sigma, or have an in-between price range product- they didn't say.

Thanks, SOD, I should have posted the link. Ya know, the more I look at it, the more it looks like a Sigma, albeit with some bells and whistles added on.

Oh great, another S&W I have to buy. I hope they are priced somewhere between a Sigma and an M&P (read as: on the lower end).

agreed....looks like what the sigma needs to be...with a standard rail size, and better slide mechanics....
Pretty sure an M&P humped a Sigma and squirted out the SD series.
Wonder which trigger they gave it...******* sigma grit junk....or super smooth M&P

If you look at the link...the price is $530.00 so right about in the middle maybe leaning toward the Sigma.

From this side it looks more like Sigma progeny. Check it out:
Really would like to know if the trigger has been changed. Somebody who knows the Sigma from the inside out needs to buy one of these and describe the trigger!

The bad taste from the Sigma has juuuuuust about left my mouth. So long as I refrain from firing my brother's 9mm sigma and just stick to shooting my cs40, shorty forty, and PC 357.

I think maybe we should start a fundraiser to buy you one of the first SD40's so you can evaluate it. If you like the trigger we will all know it's a winner!

Here's the official page from S&W, they just posted this on their facebook page, saying the SD9 and SD40 are supposed to fit between the Sigma and M&P series pistols: Introducing the SD9 & SD40 - Smith & Wesson

Now there's an idea I can get behind! Who's with me!!!!
MLK will gladly be taking donations and I will make sure to give it a thorough run down and let the general public know if it's going to be another rock in a box or a true piece of value.

Come on now, we only need 450 members to put in $1 each. Plus one member to put in my $450 administrative fee. You test the 40 and I will test the 9!
