Hello,

I'm a relatively new convert to S&W DA/SA autos-only took me 20 years of shooting for it to happen, but better late than never.

Just wondering what your favorite flavor in each caliber is...

For me:

9mm: the 5906 beats the 639 by a hair. Ask me next week and it will likely be the other way around.

40 S&W: 4006. I'm not the biggest fan of the 40, but I am a fan of the 4006.

45ACP: 4506-no contest. I've shot the 4566 and 4516 but prefer the 4506. Best. 45 I've ever owned, period.

10mm: Not my interest so I have no comments there.

Best,

Heekma

OK, I'll play...

9mm - 5903, same as 5906 buy alloy frame makes it a lightweight with a full mag

.40 - Full-size M&P .40. Hands down the best gun on the market at the moment.

.45 - 645, a tank. Keep on blasting, you'll never get tired.

10mm - Hmm, your party and you invited the 10mm but didn't ask it to play? 1066, the 1076 is sexier due to FBI usage, but the 1066 gets the job done.

Hey SPEEDGUNNER,

The 10 mm plays, it's just not my cup of tea, so I didn't want to spout off about something I have little experience or interest in. Doesn't mean I don't want to hear from those who do though...chime in 10mm fans.

Best,

Heekma

9mm-659 by a RCH over the 5906. 45ACP-645 hands down for me. A close second would be the SW99-45ACP. .40 S&W Easy one for me, my M-F CCW, SW99-40. 10mm- 1066, which is the one I have shot the best out of them all. (except for the 1046. Never had one of those.)

9MM -
Sig226 E2 Elite Platinum (just went collector) :)
M&P 9 pro

.45ACP
SC-E 1911
DK 1911

Not interested .40 or 10mm

:)

I'm partial to the compacts over the full sized.

9mm: Has to be 3913

.40 S&W: 4013TSW a close second is a fullsize M&P40

.45: The 4513TSW light and easier to carry, then comes a Springfield Champion

10mm: Up for grabs, don't have any 10mm, no desire

The 10mm has been my mainstay since 1990, this started with the S&W1006...I still shoot it and use it at times to remain proficent with it and and all of them in the 10xx series. Why is because I like to maintain the workings for each. :)

However I mostly carry and train the most with the Glock 29, double stack 10+1, smaller package, still reliable but if it is stolen, lost are have to be given up should I need it to defend myself or family, it won't be one of my S&W 3rd gen's!

At the present I'm reviewing some of the smaller 9mm options.

9mm - 5903: It has an alloy frame and is much better balanced than the 5906.

.40 - 4013: It's light, flat (single stack) and just plain nifty. I have a 4006, but I vote for the 4013.

.45 - 4566: I think its size beats out the 4506.

10mm - 1066: Hands down, the best 10mm S&W. But I like all three of my 10mm pistols (1066, 1076 & 1006)

I've only got 9mm, 10mm and 22LR on my S&W 3rd generation semi-auto branch... so far...

9mm: 5904 and 6906, soon to have 5926
10mm: 1006, 1066, 1026, 1076 - 1066 might be the best shooter
22LR: 2214

I frequently resist the urge I see to scoop up most of the 3rd gens I see...

9mm - Hands down it's my ratty looking, perfect functioning M39-2. One of the most accurate handguns I own.

40 S & W - I only own one gun in 40 so I'll cast my vote for my single stack 4053.

45ACP - I don't currently own any S & W 45ACP. Last one I had was a 4506. Can't kill those things.

10mm - I own four of them. 1006, 1066 x2 and a 1076. I've been known to CCW one of my 1066's and carry a 1066 BUG:D. LOVE the big compact 1066's.

Honestly, what I primarily carry is a Kimber Custom Compact Aluminum 45ACP and a 642CT as a BUG.

Class III

Seriously? You've got to have at least one of each! So far my 3rd generation collection consists of a 3914, 6906, 5906, 4046, 4516 and 6450 and I think I've only hit the tip of the iceberg. There's at least another dozen 3rd generation pistols that I'd love to have and then it will be time to start on the 2nd generation series. Well, that is unless they come out with a 4th generation series that I can afford. It's OK to dream, isn't it?? :)

22LR:2206
9mm:5906
40 S&W: Not a fan of the caliber
45ACP:S&W 1911
10mm:Haven't tried yet, as I am already not a fan of 40S&W

The arthritis in my wrists does not care for the snappy recoil of 40S&W.

9mm - 5946/5906
.40- don't own one
.45- don't own one but I like the 4506
10mm - I like em all. Own a 1006 and looking hard at a 1076

Not DA/SA; I love the short-stroke DAO 3rd gens.

Currently I only have a 3953 9mm. I love that gun. I dearly miss a 5944 and a 1086. I'm lusting after a 4046 for a camping gun.

The 10mm and 45 3rd gens are just a little too long from front strap to backstrap for my hands.

My choice in .45 would be the 4566 by far. The 4506 is a great piece so long as one never straps it on. For those of us who want a 4506 when the need to leave the house arises the 4566 is the better option.

For 9mm, I agree the 5903 is superior to the 5906. I believe the steel framed 9mm is a work of art, but I don't have to carry it either.
