Does anyone know how to set (re-set) the 3 digit locks on the aluminum PC case that used to come with Performance Center guns? I have one that has already been set by a previous owner, and I want to change the combinations.

Thanks,

Bill

I may be wrong, but I think u open it, then change all to zero, and the there is a small hole that lines up and you can run a straightened paper clip into. It will be from lever end towards the push button. Then close case and try opening. If it opens ok, close case again, and change numbers, and pull clip out. If the zeros don't work, try the existing combo.

I don't exactly remember. Try holding the latch in the open position and move the locks to your preferred number, then check.

If that does not work, I will check my instructions later tonight, if someone does not help out first.

Okay, I got it, and here it is for anyone else that ever needs it.

With the latch open, slide the release button toward the center of the case (the opposite direction from the way you normally push to open the latch) and rotate the number wheels to the desired 3 digit combo, then let go of the release button.

As usual I was half right!!!:D

Changed combo but it won’t open

I had to change my combo as my 6 yr old figured it out. I followed the directions to change my combo and it opened once, but now it doesn’t work. Please help!

Greatly appreciate the assistance.

If you are saying that you changed your combination but NOW you cannot get inside then the problem and the answer are both simple.

The problem is that it changed to something different then you though you set it to.

The solution is simple and time consuming-- sit in front of the TV and try every number. Tedious for sure but there are only a thousand. You should start at the number you THINK it is and go up until 999, then start at 000 and go up, one by one, until you get it.

That is the only solution other than willfully breaking it off. It will NOT be fixable if you break it.

A post-script to this conversation, just food for thought.

The foam eggshell interior of these cheap (but good looking) PC cases is hygroscopic -- they attract moisture. These cases are a fine place to transport a handgun but a horrendous place to store one, especially a handgun with anything other than a stainless finish. The PC case always enhances the sale potential but otherwise isn't of much utility.

I see very little reason to ever use the cheap locks. Better and more secure storage at home is demanded, especially for a high dollar S&W PC gun.

These are my opinions, feel free to disagree.

I suggest trying the safety pin method with the pin pushed down so you can reset it to your desired Serial No. I would also lock that case up so little prying hands have NO access to it ever as well. I caught my son outside with one of mine many years ago playing cowboys and Badguys. He had climbed up a old pantry shelf almost 10 feet to get the case down many years ago now. Bought my 1st gunsafe back then as it shook me up somewhat. There was NO ammo with it near the case but I never took chances again after that.

I know this is a very old thread, but I just purchased a used 629 Performance Center, Hunter that came with the aluminum case and I wanted to make the combination something I could remember. This is the technique that worked on mine.
