This is advertised as a 5906 Performance Center on another site, DAO, 3.5" barrel with 13 round magazine. Serial number starts with PCV. Can you tell me if this is, in fact, a 5906 PC-9? Is it a 6906 Compact PC instead? I have the hardest time telling these apart, and the DAO confuses me because that looks like a decocker to me. Any help would be appreciated. I could ask the seller but I feel you guys would probably know better, as I don't think this one comes with a box, and the SCSW doesn't provide conclusive info.

Nice gun....

What you have is a very nice gun, some call it the Shorty 9, or PC9.
It's not DAO, but traditional double action. First shot is Double Action, the rest are single action, unless it's been modified.
Nice piece, the Shorty 9 was made for Lew Horton and the Stocking Dealer program if my memory serves me correctly. With the PCV prefix (going from memory) it's the Lew Horton variation, but I'm away from my records so can't tell for certain.
Nice gun, enjoy it.

Found a couple of threads from years past, and so far I think SmithNut is right on...this must be a PC-9, also referred to as a 5906 PC-9, even though I think the seller has some of his info off a bit.

This one isn't mine, SmithNut, but it sure caught my attention.

Anyone else who cares to throw in on this, please do. I'm especially interested to know if the PC-9 was strictly a Lew Horton model, or if there were both a Lew Horton and a S&W PC marketed one as well. Catalog says serial number should start with VPC, not PCV, but as SmithNut confirms from memory, the Lew Horton starts with PCV.

Yes Shorty 9, really a version of the 6906 from the PC. I don't know why they use the 5906 Shorty but they did the same on the first run of Shorty-Fortys, calling them 4006 Shorty. Would be a TDA, DA/SA with a 12 + 1 mag. There was a later version with forward cocking serrations called a Recon 9.

Smithnut is right...... so what else is new!!

Check out page 368 SCS&W.. Shorty 9 mk III...mine came with a 12 and 15rd w/ adapter. Produced in 1995 and 1997. Are there Shorty( MK I's and MKIIs also????...... one could assume?

Like your's mine has a single sided safety...... I also have another with ambi safety and came with adjustable sights (MarkI or II ??). Serial # on that gun is VPC0xx.

There was a thread going on these guns in the last 3-4 months (April 3rd)......I love the reverse 2 tone.

They are really nice but were over shadowed by the Shorty Forty guns.

The 5906 PC-9... I've never seen one.......but from the discription in SCS&W p. 370 I'm thinking it's a 5906 ( stainless frame and 15rd mag) w/ a 6904(blue) slide. A limited Lew Horton.

Thanks for all the input, guys. Now I'll know what I'm looking at if another comes up for sale or auction. The one in the photos, well, it wasn't there the next day....auction ended early....we were two ships passing in the night, I guess. :D

That's too bad. You were certainly prudent to ask about it here as there are some "Frankenguns" out there that would have been a disaster to buy. Unfortunately for you someone either wasn't as cautious or knew what it was.

I'd say that another will be along, but there is no certainly that it will.

Can anyone here tell me the difference between the Shorty 9 or PC9 and my Recon 9?

prescodb..... can you post a pic of your Recon 9...... there are no pics in the SCS&W of any of these PC 9mms........ I've got 3...... none of which exactly match the written discriptions........ well except the SD-9.

The SC talks about a MK III but not about the MKI or II.... who knows what is out there

Not much difference.............

Can anyone here tell me the difference between the Shorty 9 or PC9 and my Recon 9?

The Recon was made for RSR while the PC9 was made for Lew Horton. So, it has a different product code as you'd expect, has big banner RECON on slide, has rubber grips and slide serrations, but otherwise close.

Local forum has one of these for $1k. Too much?

They were around $1200 when they first came out, and a bargin at that price. Originals also included a knife with a matching serial number in the aluminum case. One other thing is the .356 compacts and the Stocking Dealer specials did have steel frames, something not seen on other 6900 sized guns.
