Hello All, I just picked up a S&W PC 1911 (commander size) and was wondering if anyone knows what weight the recoil spring is rated at (haven't been able to find that info anywhere)? It's very heavy, feels like 20+ lb. Also, will a standard Commander length spring fit this pistol?

Thank You!

The spring rate depends on caliber in a 1911 Commander, regardless of who makes it.
For .45 ACP, it is 18#.
A 20# spring is recommended for a steady diet of +P .45 ammunition.
As the barrel gets shorter, the springs feel stiffer and the slide is harder to operate by hand.
Brownells has a large selection of springs to fit your pistol.

Thank you for the response! The pistol is a .45. I'm guessing that Smith is shipping with the heavier spring. I also have a Nighthawk T3. The spring in it is not as heavy as the one in the Smith. I'll order up an assortment to have on hand.
