I called S&W last September to arrange for my pistol to be sent in for the express 3rd gen action package. The service is advertized as a 5 day turn around time. The rep told me it would take at least 7 months to work on my gun.
It's been a few months and I tried again yesterday. The S&W rep told me it would now that 6 months to get the 5 day express service done. I don't want to have my gun sitting there for that long.
Has anyone had work done recently, and was there and how was the turn around times? Also can anyone suggest a gun smith who does work on 3rd gens? I'd prefer S&W to work on my gun, but waiting 6 months for a trigger job is insane

I've handled one that was sent in for that service. In my opinion I didn't notice a significant improvement over my other stock 3rd Gens. For that wait time and cost, I would suggest saving your money or buy ammo.

Nice. 6 months to get the 5 day express service....they need to take a lesson from Jimmy Johns....

Performance Center models IE my Shorty 40 got preferential treatment and made it back in a few months. They go to different shops though.

or at least I think.

I second the recommendation of Action by T - Teddy Jacobson in Houston if he is still performing work. He has done a 3919 for me and it is nice.

Great walk-thrus

Have you considered just doing the work yourself? There are a LOT of great resources out there to do most things.

I couldn't handle the smith times either and ended up getting parts to do it myself. I reconditioned my 3913 myself and it gave me a much better understanding of my firearm.

Just a suggestion.

I decided to try and email S&W to confirm what I was told. I was hoping the rep I was talking to was misinformed. Here's the reply I received from S&W

Dear Customer,

The express service has been discontinued. Current turn around time will be in the area of 8 months

If further assistance is required please reply accordingly.

Sincerely,

Frank

Now the waits 8 months.....I wish S&W would get their act together

If they are that busy wouldn't you think it would pay to make an addition to staff? I don't get it, all they are doing is pissing off their customers with service like that. What are they thinking?

Karl Sokol in VT turned my 4506 around in 6 weeks and that included Christmas/New Years. Granted, I only had new sights and barrel re-crown/ramp and chamber polishing, but he was easy to work with and get the job done right.
