I'm looking at a Model 41 with 7 3/8" inch barrel with the muzzle cap (no brake). How should the muzzle cap fit with the contour of the barrel? Should it match up making a smooth transition from cap to barrel all way around? Or, does the barrel extend beyond the edges of the muzzle cap, especially at the top. Can anyone please post a picture showing the muzzle cap from the front or slightly quartering from the front? Thanks.

Here's the pic's you are asking for:

824tsv, thanks! Perfect pictures. That's exactly what I needed. The wealth of knowledge and willingness to help others on this site is amazing. Thanks again.

Is that muzzle cap a S&W part? Where can I find one?
Welcome to the Forum

The false muzzle came with the firearm when it left the factory

Most of them get lost and separated from the firearm. Truth is, I could not tell you where mine are right now, haven't handled them in over 2 decades

You will have to watch the auction sites or put a WTB ad in the classifieds

The Muzzle cap or false muzzle was actually an afterthought. It didn't come with the early Model 41s.

This is an item that can also be found in parts boxes at gun shows.
As already stated, lost most of the time, I have quite a few 7 3/8" guns and find that you only get the cap if you get the box or if its fitted to the gun in which case you don't get the brake.

I feel (still) "lucky." I bought my 41 at a gunshow in the mid-90's for the princely sum of $550. Along with its 7 3/8" barrel came a muzzle break, muzzle cap, aluminum and steel internal weights and a 5" field barrel; all wrapped up in rags in a paper bag! But no box. :( I've wondered what happened to the box and how the previous owner kept all the goodies together. But, did I hesitate? Perhaps for a femtosecond. :D

My early 1970's model 41 cap fits just like the one pictured. It's not really a perfect fit and you would think "this just cant be right" but mine came from the factory with a muzzle break and cap in the factory box and the the fit of both the cap and brake are not an exact match to the frame. So what you see is how they fit.
