I'm getting a CS9 and would like thinner grips and I've seen Big Dog's custom delrin grips pop up in searches, but some of the threads are quite old so I'm not sure if these are still available. I'm going to want something thinner than the Hogue grips on them for CCW.

If he's not around or not making them anymore, is there any other option or is it the Hogue grips or nothing?

It doesn't look like Big Dog is around and making these lately, so I would say Hogue or DIY Delrin grip mod. Here is a helpful thread for DIY info, check out post #17 by Tom 45: http://smith-wessonforum.com/smith-wesson-semi-auto-pistols/348608-cs9-grip-mod-parts-assembly.html

I made a set of these myself, but messed up a few grips and a sideplate assembly in the process. Numrich also has 3913TSW grips with the pre-rail cutout for around $14, which will save you the step of finding where to cut (or just leave the back extension, but it's a bit more challenging).

Well I ordered those grips and some springs for my 5904 as well from Numrich so I'll see what I can do. It's a shame S&W didn't make standard plastic grips and let Hogue sell them on their own like they do with so many other rubber grips.

Is the sideplate assembly plastic on the CS9? I've noticed that quite a few critical wear parts seem to be made of plastic as well.

CS9 uses the same sideplate assy as the 3913 or 3914 and is metal. I think the only plastic parts different to the CS9 are the mag release, and sights on the early models with single-sided safety. Recoil guide assy is metal 1-piece collar. The only plastic part I wanted on the gun was the one missing - the Delrin grip!

The only plastic on my cs9 is the rear sight and the disconnector , not what I would call critical parts that must be metal. I personally never understood the need to make the cs9 thinner, that would just make it harder to shoot. Here's a few pictures. I carry the shield or the cs9 they really feel no different. But I would rather shoot the cs9.

It's less about thinning the grips then it is to get rid of the rubber that tends to catch on clothes when carrying. The grips could be just as wide as the Hogues as long as they were made of wood or plastic. Unfortunately there are no other options that I know of for the CS9.

I ended up making my own. :)

Looks like a beautiful job, there, Nak.

Not to divert the thread, but does anybody know if Big Dog is okay? He was just such a fixture on this forum, and has been missing for a while.

We need him back.
