Default Tip To Clean Stainless Steel

I just was checking the web to see what was the best way to clean stainless steel, any of us who own a stainless gun know that after time the finish get that tarnished look , the article said to use plain old Olive Oil on a soft cloth , apply and dry off with a clean rag , I figured Right, So being bored this morning on tried it on a stainless steel mag , I was shocked to see it really worked , it removed that dull look and left a nice clean finish, Had the same results when use on all my stainless pistols, Just figured I would share this bit of information, let me know your results if you try this.

I do nearly all of my cooking with olive oil. I probably like the smell of it even more than Hoppe's. So I'll give it a try!

Would love to see some before and after pics. I've always used never-dull on my stainless guns with great results. Thanks for the info.

This is known as the Mediterranean Style of gun cleaning. Plus it's good for you.

Four out of five Mafia hit-men recommend olive oil to clean their stainless guns.

I have the frame and barrel of my 5906 soaking in solvent, because they're so filthy. Soak, swab, repeat didn't work. It's baked on.
Apparently the officer who carried it didn't believe in cleaning it that often.
If the powder fouling won't come off by this weekend, I'm going to whip out the brushes.

The detective who carried the 6906 kept it cleaner. It cleaned up easily.

Decades back we used to take the grips off and run them through the dish washer. Spray them down with a good colorless aerosol oil internal and external and wipe them down. (not joking in the least) However the newer pieces had sight inserts and white outlines that didn't hold up to the heat. Ive used everything from Solvents to various organic oils over the years, and found one major thing, ALWAYS clean any organic oils (olive is organic) off before shooting... the cylinder flash can scorch it. Sometimes its a non issue and will wipe away, others it leave a mark that is extremely difficult to remove. Personally I'd use a gun oil on it after cleaning with the olive oil...

Try dish washing detergent and a toothbrush under warm water for that powder.

Olive oil does clean but I feel it oxidizes faster for some reason.
