I carry a Triple K, Woodsman Pancake suede lined holster. Got it from Cowboyneeds.com. Like all holsters, needs some breaking in (gun wrapped in a plastic bag for a few nights in the holster). Nice holster, reasonable price.

Most of the major makers have holsters for the 39 and derivatives like the 639. I have a Safariland high ride for my 639. Most major manufacturers have a fitment chart on their website. Just enter your make and model and it will show you all the possible options. The first, second and third gen S&W autos, of the same size, all use the same holster.

I'm pretty much a big fan of Don Hume's J.I.T. holster for most guns.

Holster for 39-2
If it was me I'd be looking for an exact model vintage period correct Safariland holster for your 39-2. Try a WTB on the S&W pages and/or check Ebay for a nice example if cost is a consideration. If you have money to spare their are a number of custom holster makers mentioned on S&W that would provide you with a very nice holster.

The Safariland is my favorite for the 39-2. Suede lined and with front sight groove, the gun slips in and out, yet is secure when carrying.
The other is a Hunter designed for a Colt .45 auto, I think, and is very suitable also. It has an adjustable retention strap and is comfortable on the hip. It rides a little lower than the Safariland.
Both are period correct.

Call Ed.
Rodek Leather Works, Inc. - Holsters
His pancake is $40 in your choice of color and finish. Delivery is about a week. If you want a different design just tell Ed what you're wanting. His webpage only shows his most frequently requested styles. He's done a lot of custom work.
Ed uses really heavy leather. It's going to be perfect when he ships it or it won't leave his shop. To get his quality from the other custom makers would cost 2-3 times as much. They do it to make a living. Ed does it as a hobby.
Ed has made a semi load of holsters for the 39 since the 39 was our issued gun for a lot of years.
