Hello, just wanted to share a finished 645 that I have been working on for a while. I have lurked here for a long time and finally joined, every Internet question led me here anyway. I have recently become so interested in these fantastic pistols that my 1911 collection has stalled and I have one for sale to help finance a 1006.

Ok, I screwed up the front sight ( dont ask ) and had to resort to extreme measures...I removed the front before sending it to Novaks.

Thanks to Titus at Novaks for bailing me out:)

Now on to replacing the much maligned phillips head safety screw. Readily available at Home Depot. I just cut the replacement down to size, added locktite and it sits perfectly on the recess on the safety lever.

So, it has started with these two and like I said, I will be adding a 1006 soon. Nothing like these big 3rd gen Smiths!

She is a beauty. Gotta say... if you involved Novak's, you should have gotten a rear sight also. Great to hear that they will still work on a S&W metal pistol!

Looks good. I'm surprised you didn't have Novaks cut in and do something with the rear sight as well. Enjoy!

The sight picture with the existing rear is incredible. I have a LPA rear adjustable that i might use but for now im really happy with it. I have always had a hard time picking up the front sight on my 686 and this 645 was no different.

Very nice 645. You can get a new S&W replacement safety screw here:

Thanks for the link, I am still looking for the S&W hex/allen safety lever screw. I just don't care for the Phillips head look. Now if I can find a complete safety like on my 4506 just to have around that would be great. The barrel assemblies are available but not the pinned right side ambi lever.

Dang awesome work but the Phillips head screw gave it character.

I'm looking forward to your 1006 write-up and pics. Good luck in your search. Let me know if you find an extra one for around $350!

Totally agree on there is nothing like a BIG Smith. 1911s are nice, but not many can compare to the 645-4506-1006+ series.

Nice pictures, sir. The "cure*" for the 1911 collector is sometimes the (above mentioned) S & W model 4506.

*getting them to branch out into other handguns
