A Very Short MA Gun Show Report Re: 3rd Gens

The rotating gun show between Knoxville,Nashville,Dayton, and Cincinnati was here last weekend and I went looking for the ever elusive affordable 4513 that is the only gun on my 3rd. gen wish list. Gun shows here let individuals bring in guns to sell FTF(legal in Ohio between residents) but I have never seen anything that peaked my interest. Lot of AR's but I'm good on them;).. Then I spotted a guy holding an HK case...hmmmm?...a brand new unfired since the factory P30sk 9mm...asking $550 but the sight of 5 new Benjis got him to shake hands and check each others drivers license:D....so using the Bam-Bam formula :
  • $500 purchase price
  • $0 sales tax...ftf
  • 10 mile round trip+ $6
  • $0 admission...free if you have disabilties
  • $0 for parking
  • $0 for background check...again legal between Ohio residents
:D:D..$506 total for a new in the box HK P30sk:D...and since there is no cookies left behind on this one...it will never have to succumb to the tragic boating accident the so frequently happens to so many members here(including myself;))....and the hunt for my 4513 continues;)

Score One for the free states!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:D
I didn't realize there was more than one "Bam-Bam Formula"! :D ;)

Free admission with disabilities???   Why didn't anyone ever tell me that? I'm as old as the hills and as disabled as they come! Just ask anybody! :D

Anyway, great deal. I thought I did fabulous on my P30SK... but you beat me by almost $100.00.

I was at the Marlboro show as well..and although there were no bargains..there were some interesting S&W revolvers to see. The one thing I did notice at the last few gun shows since the election is the overwhelming good spirits of those attending! Strangers were talking in the line to get in, like old friends, and the mood inside was MUCH better than ever. Nice to see...:)

I bought this old H&R .38 S&W,auto eject 5 shot for $100(!) and the guy gave me 65 rounds of factory ammo too. ( I put the fake pearlies on..old J frames that fit well with some work)
Yeah, I got to talking with a few folks while waiting in line and they/we were all shocked at the size of the line and the crazy overcrowded parking situation. I thought the gun and ammo buying panic was all over and that attendance would be down given how the election turned out and especially with the extra shows added in Sturbridge and Foxboro. I guess folks are out buying in celebration now instead of fear... or maybe it's just a Massachusetts thing.

.....................except for the dealers selling AR's......the tables were full....and the prices were down...way down:cool:
^ Well..the prices for ARs isn't coming down in the Commiewealth of Ma any time soon as we have an AG who has decided to reinterpret the existing restrictions and pretty much banned any new ones coming into the state as of 2016. Pretty pathetic.. :(
Yeah, nocents has no idea how crazy things are here in loony moonbat MA ever since 7/20/2016 and the AG lady's surprise unilateral decree essentially banning ARs & AKs and making us all felons-in-waiting. :( At the show, there was a sign on the door explaining (in curt, simplified terms) that there would be no AR or AK sales allowed at the show because of the little tyrant's decree. Amazingly, it apparently didn't keep anyone away. ;)

I attended the Greensboro NC gunshow today. I was annoyed going in by the $5 parking fee + $11 just to get in. That parking lot has been paid for more than 1000x.

The show was...........meh. There were many guns, but the vast majority were striker fired plastic and 1911s. Neither hold any allure for me.

I did come across two 3rd gens. The first was an abused Atlanta PD 5903 with hooked trigger guard and 1 mag - no box. $475. Someone had polished the slide and there was very little finish left on the rails. Pass.

The second gun was a 95% 5924 with original box and 6 mags. $550. Scarce gun that I probably could have flipped at a decent profit. But the frame decocker models are not popular and it probably would have taken some time to find the right buyer. It held little appeal to me so - pass again.

I did score two 6 round 4513TSW mags, barely used, for $40. And a RB K-frame gripcfor $10. So overall I am pleased that I went.

I am very pleased with the amount my K-frame pre lock 6 guns are evidently worth now. They had a used 4 inch 66-2.......three different examples through the show actually, all priced at $1K plus. I knew the days of the $1k model 19 were fast approaching, but evidently they are here.

Speaking of model 19s I saw a 3 inch 19-3 with target trigger and hammer and a white plastic insert in the front sight. No box, lightly used, no muzzle wear - $4K. Second one Ive ever seen in the wild and the 1st Ive come across for sale. Nice 6 gun, but not that nice, for me. Regards 18DAI

If you think that's something, you should have seen what a couple early pristine Model 29's were going for!   Holy Geesus!!! Python territory!!! :D

And one very nice K-22 (admittedly, from the infamous expensive guy), was tagged so high that I thought he was selling a pair of them!   :p

4K for a 3 inch Model 19!!! Wish I would have held onto the one I had. Wish my CS-9 would bring that money. Wish I had a Time Machine. LOL

Heck......I'd settle for a 4" round butt 19-7.

Love my 3" round butt 66s but there is just something about "S&W Blue" that makes the heart beat faster.......

while my "everyday carry" is a 3913NL with Hogue wood grips...... my 3914s with wood are my secret mistresses........

if Q had upgrade Bond from a " .380, suitable for a Lady's handbag " to a 9mm 3914 in the early 90s;......... IMHO we'd be owning the PPK of the 21st century.

Those are a couple of nice "small" pick ups. Those early 4513TSW magazines seem to be more scarce than the early 3913TSW magazines.

I wonder what my Model 64-6 3" RB is worth? Not as much as my Model 13-3 3" RB, but probably more than I paid for it. Then again, I have no interest in selling the Model 13.

There is only one show around here that charges for parking. It's one I don't go to because it's a two hour drive each way. There are closer shows with free parking, so I don't need to go to one further away that charges for parking.

As I said before, I never expect to find real bargains at gun shows, but the entertainment is usually worth the price of admission.

BAM-BAM One of my part time jobs is instructing new shooters at the local indoor range. Fully 90% of them are female, and yes they pay me to do it. ;)

All of them want a small single stack 9mm. Well........a few wanted a small 380 at first but then I let them shoot one. So they go through all the rental guns, XDs9, LC9, G43, shield 9 and Sig 290. They have complaints about all of them. "...lousy triggers...too much felt recoil....cant rack the slide......grip texture too rough......grips too slippery......too big with extended mag.....cant see the sights well.....ect".

So then I pull out my 3914 and more recently my CS9. They fire two or three mags and then want to know who makes it and how much it costs. After I explain that its no longer made and you have to buy off the auction boards, they get their husbands/boyfriends involved. "Tell him how to get me one." I tell them and they get them. So far Ive sold nine 3914s and one CS9.

Wonder why there are very few 3914s up on Gunbroker in the last quarter of last year? I did that. ;)

My other part time job is at the local high end gunshop. A rep for the distributor was in last week pushing Rugers and s&ws. The MGR didnt order any smiths because we cant move them. The rep says "There has to be one model you can sell..." I told him to tell those lawnmower designers and plumbers running the current company posing as s&w to make a batch of nice 3914s. I can sell every one they make. :) The rep left a little dejected. Oh well. Truth hurts and all that. Regards 18DAI

I've noticed a related phenomenon and wonder if anyone else but me has run into it. Specifically, I've found that the weekend of the bigger MA gun shows (Marlboro, Plymouth and Springfield) I often find a good deal on a "just came in" desirable used gun in one of my local gun shops ( or local add). Not sure why, but it has happened too many times to discount as coincidence. If I were a betting man, I'd venture that folks sell stuff off last minute to have cash for the deal they are hunting at the gun show.
p.s. I have to say that in the last 20 years of going to gunshows, I can count the times I left with a "find on one hand.

18DAI up till now, I've respected your opinion on all things S&W.
But you see, I'm very much an eye for eye kinda guy.
So why you knocking plumbers?!? lol

Getting back to the topic of gun shows for the moment, I'd have to say my satisfaction and success level is what the statisticians would call "a normal distribution". A few GREAT shows with purchases of great deals, a few washouts with high-priced ****, and most are just OK... sometimes a purchase, sometimes not.

As an example of a good purchase... I was at a Miami, Florida show just a couple of months ago. Most of the vendors are regulars/repeats, and I recognize the salespeople, and even some of the individual guns.

During a stop at the largest vendor (if you go to the Miami Shows, you know who this is), one of the sales guys asked me if I was looking for anything particular. I told him yes, I'm really looking for a S&W model 39... you know, the single stack 9mm. He paused for a minute and said, I'm sure we don't have one of those with us today, but I may have something else you'd be interested in.

We walked over to another of his tables, and there sat a BEAUTIFUL S&W model 639. He said they had just bought an estate, and most of the guns were new in box. The gun was perfect, but I didn't see the box on the table.

Since there is a God, and sometimes good things happen, even to knuckleheads like me, the main manager happened to be passing by at the time. I spoke up and said, "It's not exactly what I was looking for, but it's really very nice. What can you do for a customer with cash and a Concealed Permit?"

The tag on the gun said $625, with box and accessories. The boss looked and said "$425 plus tax and $5 for background check". I said, "Let's do it."

I start the required paperwork exercise, and I see the gun going into a S&W box. Looks good so far.

We finish the transaction, and now I really have a chance to examine everything. This was an item straight out of a time machine. Never fired, box, paperwork, everything in perfect shape. Even the extra magazine was still in it's factory wrapper.

Yes my friends, you can still find a gem every once in a while.

Best wishes to all!

Roger aka Mr. Wonderful

Malloy and his fellow liberals have had AR 15s banned here in CT since 2013 and is still in effect.

I usually go to the Springfield Ma show and sometimes Marlboro.. I often come home empty handed lately, but have found some good deals over the past 5 years. It gives me something to do. I collect theater made knives and have found some nice ones too from one or two vendors. Not cheap though.

My dreams of a 3" 65 are slowly fading...
Unless BAM has a few open line items in that will of his!

......I don't tell 'em I'm disabled....I just show them my prosthetic leg and they think I am;):D
Not sure if serious... ;) ... but beware of challenging poor old TTSH on the old/disabled/"I'm unhealthier than you" thing! :D I've practically got one foot in the grave and have more things wrong with me than my doctor can even list on one single-spaced typewritten page. Sad but true. ;) A couple more lines were added just this past week.

There's a funny-but-gruesome story I could tell about me and another guy who was said to be in critically poor health... practically on his deathbed supposedly. Well, when we were done with our long conversation, he was feeling more sorry for me than for himself. I beat him in every "state of ill health" category.
