CA will have new law in 2018, all semis must have only 10 round capacity. Pro mag has 10 rounds for 59 series so have my 559 and 459 covered, they will also fit the 669 but look stupid sticking out the bottom and kinda defeat the purpose of compact. Can't find anything for 4006 in 40 s&w. Already contacted S&W and they told me my guns were obsolete ( kinda rude) s&W was no help they said look for third party seller, uh yah. Grand Pa just wants to take the kids out to punch paper and be legal.

With a little trial an error I would experiment with removing the base plate and placing something rigid into the spring that would limit the number of rounds that can be placed into magazine. Akin to the plug in a shotgun magazine tube.

Looks like the law goes in effect July 1, 2017.. Check SB 1446 for all the requirements. I thought there was something about adding a restriction to make a 10 round mag from a regular capacity magazine but I did not see it. Hopefully you will be able to locate some 10 round mags.

Factory 10rd magazines for your pistols are discontinued but can still sometimes be found. Part numbers to search-
190590000 459/559
190550000 669
190790000 4006

You will find that ProMag magazines are not generally well regarded.

Yeah, I'd steer clear of ProMag. My 659 came with one, and it will not drop from the gun when I hit the mag release. No such problems with the S&W mag.
It's more than a little disconcerting how Smith turns their backs on owners of their older (and better!) handguns. They can keep their "plastic fantastics".

4006 mags

Yes they ( s&W) could be a lot more help, especially considering the population here in CA and how many of us will need new mags

4006 mag

I went to that link and the pic looks like a s&w mp mag, with a hump on the left side even though it says 59, 5900 series

MecGar is a better choice - S&W 5900 Series/915/910/659 - 9mm - 10 Rounds - Blued Magazine | Mec-Gar Magazines

I need to read the law myself and see if we can alter them and be legal, I've always just bought name brand as to say s&w new blister pacs, well not always learned my lesson years ago buying after market stuff and here I am again since s&w says my 26 year old hand gun is obsolete, (the reps words). my thinking is quality handguns are just puppies at 26 years

This may not make you feel any better... but most of us feel that the current S&W and the people who run them and many (most?) of the folks working for them and answering their phones are OBSOLETE to us, the real metal and wood firearms afficianados.

Me, personally, I feel like S&W is a key member of a huge list of people who are almost completely unqualified to know a damn thing or help in any way with 1-2-3rd Gen pistols. Those folks aren't the gun makers that I grew up with, they are low-wage parts assemblers. They put together tupperware guns like the guy at Wal-Mart who assembles display bicycles and coffee tables and patio furniture.

I absolutely understand why you called them, I'm annoyed that you got such a response but I'm hardly surprised even a bit.

You would think S&W would offer a follower that is longer that would eat up the excess space. I would buy them for my 5900 mags here in Canada.

I haven't read the law but I think we can alter them to 10 rounds but hate to ruin a perfectly good mag.

Unlike moonbat Massachusetts where an altered post-ban hi-cap magazine (altered down to 10-rounds or less) has no exemption in law, regs, AG guidance or case law, I believe that California has long accepted permanently altered post-ban hi-caps as legal. Whether or not that will still stand after the passage of Proposition 63 and implementing regs still under development remains to be seen. :(

669 10 shot mags

I'm looking for mags for a 669 as well. You can try ebay, but they're not cheap.
I posted a new thread yesterday if your still interested in 669 mags, found some that won't brake the bank and they are MecGar redos. but shot 100 rounds through it and no problems. Send me a PM if you can't find the thread, arrow42157

I'd simply get out of California, or any other Communist state.
The price you pay in taxes alone would feed a family of 8.

Florida has similar climate, bikini's pretty much year-round,
NO STATE INCOME TAX, 6% sales tax in my area, Property
Taxes are LOW, and around 250-300K gets you a Mansion with
around 5-10 acres if you shop smart in the Northwest FL area.
Stay just outside the city and things get even better...
close enough to hit the mall occasionally, but not so close as
to be bothered by Dazzling Urbanites on the warpath ;)

It's why so many folks head SOUTHERN when they retire...low
costs, low/no taxes, hot chix everywhere, and anti-Criminal Laws
instead of Anti-Gun laws.

Best of all, VERY few hippies ;)

Did I mention hot chix with guns??

Don't forget the stand your ground laws in Florida. Also if you have a carry permit, you buy a gun from a gun store, & take it home in 10 minutes. Private sales, no problem. Gun shows galore. GARY

Already contacted S&W and they told me my guns were obsolete ( kinda rude).....

As you know, these are all still quite servicable pistols. The only thing that's obsolete is S&W's ability and willingness to adequately service their older products.

P.S. As mentioned already, Mec-gars are probably your best (and most economical) option. I nearly picked up a couple recently for my 5906......just in case. ;)

Yeah all that sounds nice until I remember all my children and grand children live here in southern California. Now in my sixties I have lived through the good (many people forget Ronald Reagan was our Governor once upon a time) and the bad well politically speaking just about all the rest of my years. I live in Bakersfield now and all we can do is keep sending Kevin McCarthy back to DC to help give us here in the Big Valley a voice. I kind of feel sorry for him when he comes to our Friends of NRA banquets every year he gets an earful. Careful around all those hot chicks with guns they bite sometimes.

Well if your hesitating not sure if they work, I have one now and it drops free every time and zero problems misfires or the like. I would look as you said at gun shows or local gun shops for them. MecGars website is probably about the most expensive place to get them, just a few bucks more but hey everything is relative when it comes to saving money. But of course if you going to pay to park and pay to walk through the door at a gun show your back to not saving any money again. One nice thing about direct from MecGar is they are in stock all the time, or should be.
