Correctly drilling the grip pin hole for "Big Dog" style grips. First time every time

This is how I do it.

However it requires a drill press and vise.
Don't fear. I used a $50.00 HF drill press and a $14.00 HF drill press vice.

1. Modify, cut, grind, dremel, file, and sand on your plastic grips until you are satisfied with the fitment, without regard to the grip pin hole. Doing this with the slide and sideplate removed makes the multiple test fittings easier. By now, slipping the grips on-and-off should be second nature.

2. Mount the frame of the pistol in the padded jaws of the drill press vise and with the grips off, position the vise so the grip pin hole in the frame lines up with the chuck.

3. Install the closest fitting drill bit for the grip pin hole upside-down in the drill chuck and pull down the chuck until the inverted bit shank is centered in the frame grip pin hole and lock it there.

4. Bolt/clamp the drill press vise to the drill press table, back out and invert the bit, cutting end down, in the chuck, slip the grips back on the secured frame, and drill the hole.

You can't miss!

Great post. To prevent from damaging the frame, I suggest a minor alteration to the process:

4. Bolt/clamp the drill press vise to the drill press table, back out and replace with a smaller drill bit cutting end down, slip the grips back on the secured frame, and drill a pilot hole.

5. Remove the frame and secure just the grip to the press, open the grip hole to the proper diameter by chasing the pilot hole.

I sure would like to find someone doing these grips too.
I have a CS45 I'd like to have a set made for.
I'm pretty good at making / modifying stuff too, but the right grips (45136 / 4516 IIRC?) are getting harder to find and I don't want to screw up a couple of sets trying to get them to fit right.
Anybody have any idea what happened to Tercgen? It seems odd for someone so active on the board to just vanish like that. Especially a skilled craftsman.
