*Updated Pictures with New Stainless Weaver Rail!!




Hello All,

This popped up locally. I used to own a Model 422, but ended up trading it away, with the hopes of buying a 622 down the road as I prefer stainless.

Apparently the 2206 is a solid stainless steel construction as opposed to the 622 which is a Stainless Steel alloy. I don’t mind the extra heft with a full stainless gun.

After doing some research the 2206 TGT I bought was made from 1994-1996, has a 6” barrel, and is factory Drilled and Tapped for a Rail/Scope Mount. It has a Millet Adjustable Rear Sight, which I like the looks of. She also is sporting a beautiful pair of Herret wood Fingergroove Grips. Target Trigger that is serrated.

The finish has some scratches, and grips are showing a bit of clear coat flaking on the bottom.

The action/mag release is unbelievablely smooth, and supposedly Bob Chow worked on it. Not sure how to confirm that exactly, as the original owner died.

Here are some pics, by the way, I got it for $300 no tax. Any other 2206 TGT owners around? How does this model compare to the other smith semi .22lr’s? Other than the model 41 as I assume that’s in a class of its own.

Didn’t see the pictures but you did real well at $300. I have been looking for a 2206 TGT to add to the fleet. I have a couple of 422 targets and a 2206 plain. I picked up a 2213 at the Tulsa show last week. I paid more for the 2213 than you did for the 2206TGT.

The TGT is rare. I have a 2206 that I like. If I found a $300 TGT, I'd buy it to flip. The pistols are good, I find them a little odd looking, but they are of higher quality then ALL the S&W rimfire pistols that have followed, and they are of higher quality than these new "Victory" models.

Are your grips plastic with a wood grain look or are they actually wood?

Outside of the model 41 and 46, the 2206TGT is the best S&W has to offer in the 22LR semi-auto.

Post up some pics, sounds like you got a good deal.

Some corrections to your description.

1) The slide isn't drilled and tapped, the muzzle in front of the slide is.

2) The stock target grips are not clear coated, sounds like someone may have done their own thing on them.

Skjos, I also noticed your grips are slightly different than mine. Is that due to maybe being a different year than mine?

You have a beautiful 2206 TGT! Is that a weights mount? I love the look! Also plan on picking up the threaded adaptor as well.

It's a Weaver, there is one on GB right now, search "Weaver 407S", $3 starting bid...

The issue I have with it is that it is too long over the slide and makes it difficult to field strip the pistol. I'm probably going to shorten it a bit as the red dot I use sits further forward.

The red dot makes it a ton of fun to shoot.

It does look like your grips have been clear coated at some point, that isn't the original finish.

Ya that’s not a problem, I can always shorten the rail slightly.

Nathan 510 I really like your 622, I am drooling with envy over that pic of it. The last one I seen up here in Canada had Pearl grips on it and a Leopold scope on it. They wanted near $600.00 for it at that time at a gun show. I went home but it didn't go with me at that price.

I believe different grips were used during different points in the production. Mine are the more scarce faux wood (plastic) grips.

First off, skjos, your instruction write up is the most useful thing I've ever found on line.
I have a 6" 2206 with (I believe) a T prefixed on serial #. Mine has the black plastic grips and the smaller adjustable rear sight.
It's my favorite 22 and shoots great, but the rear sight is getting a little small for my eyes. Does anyone know if the adjustable sight on the TGT model will fit a standard 2206 without going through gun smithing?
Also, I'm looking for target style grips and an extended barrel nut. Any ideas where these parts can be purchased?

You got yourself a very nice pistol at a good price. I owned one of these for awhile. To me, they are the top of the line in that series of pistols!

If your pistol has the fixed sight, the dovetail is different on the target sight.

If you have the adjustable sight(aka "target sights) then it would take a lot of cutting to make it work.

Occasionally aftermarket LPA rear sights show up on EBAY or GB, they do fit the factory dovetail. In addition I have a slide with a Novak S&W 3rd gen/1911 handgun rear sight in the dovetail. I didn't fit it, supposedly it came from S+W that way.

Beyond that a red dot is really fun on these guns, it's easy to fit a rail for one.

The barrel nut comes from EWK Arms, and the factory plastic target grips are available on Gun Parts Corp.

A nice 2206TGT in the box just went for $990 on Gun Broker...
