Model 41 Experts,

A friend just acquired an Early "Boxed" Model 41 and is interested in knowing what all constitutes a Complete "As Shipped" Package!!

It has a 7 3/8" Barrel with Muzzle Brake attached & is mainly interested in knowing if a False Muzzle/Barrel Cap was "Factory" included when "Originally" shipped...Serial No. is 14542!!

Any info you can provide would be greatly appreciated...Thanks in advance!!

My LNIB 7 3/8" Model 41 (mfg 1958) also came with the lighter aluminum barrel weight in addition to the heavy one which was installed.

Whether the aluminum one was originally included by S&W or added by the seller, I don't know.

A-37,

My Friend's Early 7 3/8" 41 came with both Barrel Weights (1 Alum. & 1 Steel)!!

Given that...Guess that poses another question...Did the Early Model 41 come with "Both"...Or only one?? If only one...Which one did it originally ship with??

I clarified my post.

As noted above, the 7 3/8" (brake) bbls were shipped with both a steel and aluminum weight (one installed) and a brake and FM (Brake on bbl) along with tool/cleaning kit, instruction folder, and some misc. papers. Re another post - have not seen any brakes or FMs that were not shiny black - unless cleaning removed the anodize finish. A few got out with no finish, but not issue.

Hi Tom,

Thanks so much...That's exactly the info I was looking for...Appreciate the help!!

Those serial no's given would make that a 1st year gun which is 1958 when it was produced. I have one older then that myself but never got the aluminum weight with it or the false nose cap as well. I now own the false nose which is on mine and I shoot it regularly with it as well. The muzzle brake is sitting in one of my gun safes where it can stay forever.

41s

I don't believe the early model 41's came false muzzle cap. Purchased a few LNIB from original owners 4 digit models.

Thom Beckwith has answered this question and if anybody knows its him period.

Smith fan is correct. The early model 41s did not come with a false muzzle... The false muzzle was introduced later in 1958. Masterpiece I would think your gun would have had the false muzzle included.
