Did S&W ever make a 1st 2nd or 3rd gen 357sig? if so what model number.

I've never seen or heard of one.

John

Edit: A member has a PC pistol with a 357 sig barrel but it seems to be a one-off.

The only autos made in 357 sig were Model 357v sigma around 1998, limited production. In 2004 Model sw990l, 15 compact, 15 full size were made in 357sig, rare.

The 3rd generation pistols were what was around when the 357SIG was introduced

There never was a Production 357SIG 3rd generation auto loader, but there was a single Shorty 357 built in 1993. It has been confirmed that this was a run of one pistol

No one knows if it was a marketing sample or a test bed to compare 357SIG ammunition performance against the newly introduced 40S&W cartridge

As far as production guns go, there were somewhat less than 1500 of the SW357V SIGMAs produced. Unfortunatly the entire SIGMA line had less than stellar acceptance by the public

The well designed and highly popular M&P line of auto-loaders had many thousands, probably 10s of thousands, of M&P357s produced in both full size and compact. These were adopted by Law Enforcement Agencies across the US and are still being produced to fulfill contracts

I do not believe that there were any additional "Production" 357SIGs from Smith and Wesson

S&W made the current model M&P in 357 Sig. The NC State Highway Patrol bought and issued them. They had problems from the beginning and finally S&W bought them back and they were replaced with Sig pistols. I was told by a NC SHP armorer that S&W discontinued the 357 M&P as they could never get them to operate reliably.

Thanks to all I want a 357 sig S/A D/A was hoping S&W had made one I will look at some Sig Sauers

Is there any reason why you are not considering an HK USPc chambered for the 357SIG cartridge?

Or if you want smaller and lighter, there is always the P2000sk chambered for the 357 SIG cartridge

The Sub-Kompac carries 10 rounds with it's standard capacity magazine, but can be reloaded with the longer 12 round mags. I use the X-grip spacer so that it has a nicer visual appeal

Let me start by saying that I really like and respect my Sigs. Right now you can buy used 40's for peanuts. You might find one of those you like and then get a 357 Sig barrel for it.

I was wondering the other day, did they ever make one in .38 super?

I have never heard of S&W making a pistol in 38 Super. Back many years ago when the 9MM 90 grain hollow point bullet (short Super Vel type) became available to reloaders, owners of model 39's and some other 9MM pistols would get their barrels rechambered for the 38 Super.
Overall cartridge length was critical for the cartridge to fit and function in the 9MM magazines.
One had to use reloaded cartridges for this conversion as factory 38 Super cartridges were to long fit in the 9MM magazines.
The velocity was pretty high and very impressive with these reloads.
