I was on the S&W website and could not see any steel frame pistols except for some 1911s and 22s. When did that happen?

I must have been so busy with polymer framed striker fired guns I missed the memo. It has been years since I looked at DA/SA guns.

It’s tough to nail down a hard date because they continued to fulfill LE contracts of 3rd Gen pistols after they stopped offering them in their retail catalog. And then they most likely shipped held-back stock set aside for possible contracts too.

One thing we see often in this forum (and I notice in any gun forum...) are mild panics and useless, unfounded teeth-gnashing with regards to parts for 3rd Gens and S&W’s support or lack there of on these guns.

They made a zillion and most parts swap across a lot of guns. If you crack a slide, frame or bulge a barrel, you may have a tough search and little help from the mothership but otherwise, I don’t think folks should be scared of the serviceability of these discontinued pistols... but many seem to get worked up about it.

Some of the "OBS" that is obsolete guns are probably harder to get unique to them parts for, but otherwise, I think you're right.

For example, I don't think S&W has any of the oddly shaped magazine baseplates for the pre rail TSW guns. Things like that.

Then again, maybe I should call the mothership and find out for sure. ;)
