Fox has a new tv show, "LA's Finest", with two female cops as the stars. One of them carries an M&P but the other one, Jessica Alba, is sporting a 3rd gen S&W. Anyone have any idea which model?

I looked it up and the only 3rd gen mentioned is a 5906. The picture of the actress holding the gun shows a grip so low that her left thumb (right handed shooter) was at the bottom of the trigger guard! I guess if you can handle the muzzle flip it could work.

Anyway, nice to see the 3rd gens still getting a little screen time even if it's just something they grabbed from the prop dept.

According to the Internet Movie Firearms Database (a fantastic resource for information regarding firearms in TV Shows, Movies, and to a lesser extent Video Games) Nancy Mckenna (Jessica Alba) carries a Smith & Wesson 5906 in LA's Finest.

Judging by the photo, they are correct.

Also, judging by what I'm seeing, I need to check out this show because it's relevant to my interests, foxy ladies and firearms! ;)

Are we sure that is a 5906?

The frame certainly looks like anodized aluminum. If so, wouldn't it be a 5903?

Obviously, LAPD, if that is what the show is supposed to be about, did not issue aluminum frame 3rd Gen duty pistols. But, this is Hollywood.

I much prefer the series with accurate portrayals, such as Dragnet and Adam-12.

Saw a trailer couple of weeks ago. That was ALL I needed. Not going to waste my time.

Now Southland was a good show. Sort of like Barney Miller or NYPD Blues. Getting the job done and facing down the demons to do it.

That was my first thought when I looked it up on IMFDB. However, I think it might be too short to be a 5903/6, unless the angle is playing tricks on my eyes. I'm thinking maybe a 6903? Not a 3rd Gen S&W expert like many here, so I could be wrong, but that's what I was thinking.

Cagney and Lacey 2021. Made me laugh when I saw the trailers. But, lo and behold, my girlfriend likes the show so I have to watch it so we can talk about it. Oh, well, foxy ladies and guns, if my woman says to watch why should I argue? :D

That pistol is not a 5906. Note the length of the slide compared to the frame. On the 5906 the slide is 5/8 inch longer than the frame and extends forward from the frame by that amount. On the gun in the picture the slide ends just beyond the frame, maybe 1/8 inch or so. Or is there a long frame / short slide 5906 I am not aware of?

I think 6906 would be a good guess.

T!

Here are a couple of other shots. IMFDB is like Wikipedia - anyone can post anything and its often wrong.

+1. Hill Street Blues was a good show back in the day. In those “pre-VCR days” our squad would meet to watch it on TV together. Those were good times with some of the finest guys I ever served with.

1. The thing that makes this forum great is that there's a pic of Jessica Alba, and everyone here is discussing the pistol.
2. A loaded 5906 weighs approx. the same as Jessica Alba. Has to be a 6906.

Stepped satin alloy frame, 3rd trigger guard, Novak sights, yep 6906. Product code 108611.

I love this site. Posts like this crack me up. You guys can observe the smallest of details and pinpoint the exact model SKU. Another site I frequent has numerous aircraft aficionados and someone posts a pic of an aircraft and ask what model it is. One guy will say its a model XXX-A, another says it can’t be an A, because there’s an extra row of rivets on the picture and the guns are in a different location so it has to be C model. Then someone else chimes in about the engines are wrong for that model.
I’m not making fun of anyone. I just amazes me how observant some people are, and the depth of their knowledge.
I tip my hat to You GaryS.
