So...my obsession for frame mounted 3rd gen decocker pistols continues. Added this 5926 to my collection. It all started in Dec. Of 93 when I got my 1026. Recent years allowed me to add a 4026 (KCPD), 1076 and I recently shared a pick of the rare 4536. It's an addiction for sure.

I much prefer the frame mounted decocker of my 1026 to any other S&W 3rd gen I have... tho I tolerate the slide mounted decocker, the frame mounted is king in my book.

I would like to some day find a 5926...

And P.S. good luck trying to reassemble one.... took me 3 hrs to get a 1076 back together once

I've got a 5926 as well and it's a pretty nice gun. I much prefer the frame decocker to a slide safety though a slide decocker only safety would be pretty close. Wish they'd kept making them, I wonder if SIG had anything to do with them stopping.

They are a handful to reassemble, I replaced the small brass trigger take up spring in my 1026 and 1006. The 26 was definitely a challenge.
Yes, I’ve heard Sig was the reason for the frame decockers being discontinued.

I wish this had never come up since I have just gotten satisfied with a build of an all metal (mostly 2nd Gen) gun with a slide mounted safety. Now you have me thinking about how a frame mounted safety would be so comfortable with the muscle memory developed with my Colt and High Standard semi-autos. I hope you are proud of yourselves!!

I pounced on this nice 4026 at a gun show in 2011 and it's become one of my favorite 3rd gens. Shipped in March 2000.

Very lightly used, the spurless hammer and flat sides make it better for concealed carry than most medium to full size firearms.

I will be the lone dissenting opinion. Probably not the lone... but the only one posting.

I'm not a fan of the design. I don't believe that S&W was either, but a h-u-g-e sales contract hinged on it. I don't think the S&W version matches up favorably with the Sig design, and it take a lot for me to say that as I'm absolutely not a fan of Sig guns at all.

I'm also extremely accustomed to having that big 'ole lever there to assist my grabbing of the slide. Like the xx26 and xx76 models, the DAO models have nothing on the slide either and my 3953 was noticeably different with no lever to help with the grab.

They also require a different grip and that can complicate things when you need a replacement grip or even options in grip styles.

They do make for a fantastic collector chase for you guys who love them. There is a 6926 out there in the world and those are very scarce too.

I'd jump all over a 1026 if I found one, but I love the 5-inch guns. I probably wouldn't buy a 1076.

I don't mean to muck up a love thread, I still think it's a heap of fun to chase down and catalog all the crazy variants and if guys are collecting these, I enjoy reading about their conquests and finds. :D

I'll give you this point. This is a case where the slide could use some forward serrations, or a larger area at the rear.

Can’t deny the grip issue either. I added small pieces of non-slip grip tape to my 1026 a few years ago and touched it up with matching spray paint. It has worked great for me.

This one might turn out better.

I don’t mean to drift this thread too much and hope I’m not.

I only have one frame mounted decocker pistol and it’s not a S&W or a Sig.

I have a great friend who is an avid collector, (hoarder,) and shooter of Sigs. Not really knowing their history he was insistent that the frame mounted decocker was an original idea/design of Sig Sauer. Well sort of but not so fast I told him.

I showed him my late war but with all levers Sauer & Sohn 38H. He was very surprised to say the least.

Public Service Announcement: For those of you who own, carry or shoot this variant, please remember this P.S.A.

The frames of these pistols should not be disassembled beyond field stripping. They are a bear to get back together properly. We now return to our regular programming.

Does any special care have to be taken when removing the grips as well? The decocker springs look a little delicate compared to SIG ones.

Actually I have to agree with you ... And I've had an ex-LE 1076 since the mid-'90s, which was my EDC 10mm through about 2005. (I'd switch over to a Glock 20 for woods and hiking carry). I also have a 1006 and 4566.

Compared to the German-made Sig P220 and P228 models I've owned, and my current DA/SA P220 10mm Elite Match, the frame-mounted decock lever on my S&W 1076 always seemed fragile, like you had to baby it. Mine also has the two dots stamped under the lever's black tab ( ':' ), which indicates my pistol went thru the Recall process and was deemed fixed.

I never had a problem with it whatsoever, but for EDC these days I've retired my 10XX-series pistols just due to scarily of parts if something should break.

I have other 3rd Gens that work into the EDC rotation in the fall and winter, but all have the traditional slide-mounted lever.

I have to admit that if they made a 3933 (I think that's what it would have been), I'd have looked for one to buy.

Like others, I've become very used to the slide mounted decocker, but it would still be an interesting safe queen to have.

I missed a 4026 for about $325 a few years back. Wasn't interested at the time and am kicking myself. Ran across a 5926 a few months back at a pawn shop, but they wanted over $500 and I don't like 9mm that much.

Love my 1076, it got it all started. Have a Sig P229 and a P220. Wished all my guns were frame decocker.

Never had them come off on any of the 3 I have the grips off of. They seem to be in place pretty good, I imagine you would have to try to remove them.

Good info!
