59 series Mec-Gar 10 round magazine unreliability?

I've had intermittent FTF and FTE problems with my 5906 and 6906, and after sending them to BMCM for extractor repairs I think I may have narrowed down one of the problems. Living in California I have to deal with magazine bans, so I had ordered two of the 10-round 59 series aftermarket mecgar mags for use at the range, and they've been most of what I've used. Today while running snap caps through both guns I noticed they would consistently fail to feed if I didn't quickly and perfectly rack the slide. I tried the same with a permanently blocked OEM 15 rounder I had and I had no issues even if I was riding the slide back. Has anyone noticed similar issues with mecgar 10 round mags and are they present on the 15 and 17 round mags?

I too have a few 10rd mec mags; my issue so far in the 5904 is that they don’t seat well and also are difficult to release. They do the same in my dad’s 59. I haven’t shot more than two mags out of the 5904 but will try to take it out and see if I get any ftf/ftes.

Messing around with the Mec-Gar mag and the OEM mag back to back the Mec-Gar definitely rattles around in both guns while the OEM mag sits flush. The Mec-Gar also definitely feeds rounds a lot rougher and the OEM had no hiccups. I can't get my hands on their 15 or 17 round mags unfortunately to see if it's a problem with the brand or just the specific magazines. The OEM 10 rounders unfortunately also seem to be pretty hard to track down.

MecGar 10 rounders work 100% everytime in my 5906TSW.

I have 3 Mec-Gar 10 round mags for my 6906, and they've worked perfectly. I mix them into the bag with my two Smith 12 round, and my single mdl. 59 15 round with a conversion plate, and other than round count, never had a difference from any.

As much as I like Yosemite and the Redwoods, I cannot imagine living (which means paying taxes) in the People's Democratic Republic of California. For mags, I always pay the extra money and get OEM. After market is a gamble. I would likely try Mech Gar in a pinch, but load individual rounds in the chamber before you resort to Pro Mag - it will be faster.

Have we at last found an unreliable Mec gar?

I've run em 100% in 9mm and 10mm 1911s, Beretta, Browning Hi Power. They are OEM for some of the best guns.

I've used Mec-Gars for SIGs and they've been 100% reliable there, my S&Ws just don't seem to like these particular ones though. Looking closely at my 5906TSW and my 6906 it looks like they feed just a little too low, when I slowly close the slide it looks like the round will catch on the feed ramp as it locks back up. On the 5906 it'll generally go in but with some resistance while on the 6906 it's almost guaranteed to fail to feed if I'm riding the slide back, and with my OEM mag it feeds successfully regardless of how slowly I rack the slide. I haven't been able to get out to the range to test how they do in actual live fire but I have a suspicion the mags might've been responsible for some of the feeding and extraction woes I've had previously since I've barely used the OEM mags at the range.

I think we have found a gun that Mec Gars won’t work well in. But I also know that CZ and Beretta buy their mags from use Mec Gar and add their own base plates.

Who manufacturers S&W OEM magazines? Are they really made at the S& W factory in MA and ME? Or are they made by a 2nd party vendor exclusively for S&W to tight tolerances?

I also know that many after market mags are junk.. Pro Mag for instance..
