I remember seeing, decades ago, a magazine article about a sporter conversion done on a M-41 or M-46 by custom knifemaker Bob Loveless. I think it was in a knife magazine. Anyone remember, or have a copy?
Thanks,
Steve

I remember an article about some one adding an external hammer among other things; was that it by chance?

The Gun Digest Book of Pistolsmithing by Jack Mitchell has an articule in it with some pictures.

I saw one for sale a while back. External hammer, looked oddly similar to a 622 with a vent rib cut into the top of the slide.

Thanks all for the interest. That one on gunbroker is the ticket. Not sure I need the magazine after seeing the pistol. I guess the imagination can get carried away, but it's a pretty slick job!
Best,
Steve

My somewhat unreliable memory says that the magazine featuring the Loveless modified S&W Model 41 was an issue of Gun World Magazine. I semi-recall the issue and the cover, but I have no idea of when the issue and article were published. I believe that the article describing the pistol was written by the late Dean Grennell.

Guns & Ammo Nov 1970 Vol 14 no. 11 Whit Collins
Gun World March 1975 - Dean Grennell

Objective was to build a good field carry piece with exposed hammer. A highly skilled artist/craftsman meeting his personal needs. Several bbl lengths and configerations were produced.

S&W had no interest in a standardized version
