Gen 3’s are Coming back !

I'm pretty sure that Springfield's SA-35's major parts are made by Tisas. The parts are imported, then final machining, finishing and assembly performed in the U.S. by Springfield Armory. This is the same process by which they made various forms of the M-1911 and their P-9 pistols.
At work we were told many SA parts are made by Imbel, in Brazil. Who knows if they now use Tisas? I’ve even seen Imbel marked 1911 frames from SA. GARY

Yeah sure have shoved enough polymer striker fired guns down our throats. Am not critical of them but prefer a hammer fired one like my CS series.

Could happen. Colt brought back the Python and charged nearly 2 grand for one. I'd LOVE it if they brought back the 3rd Gen's. I have 8 of them. But I'm not looking to spend a grand on one. If Beretta can produce a 92X and SIG a 226 for less than $800, S&W better do the same.

But I'd be happier if they just supported them with warranty repair and parts. Tons of them out there, already. No real need for a whole new 5906 when there are so many out there.

Damn I'd like to know where you are seeing Beretta 92X's and Sig 226's for less than $800?!?

We've got plenty of choices in plastic handguns. I'm looking forward to steel framed TDA. I need no more striker-fired polymer guns. The market is awash with them.

Me too. Basically they're all the same.

Out of curiosity, would it be easier to accurately fit a separate barrel bushing (as in Gen 2) or the barrel end ball with a fixed bushing as came later? On John Browning’s deign for the 1911 he used the former, but depending on the builder, that gun can be built accurately either way.

Interesting. I would guess they went to the belled/balled muzzle with the 3rd gens because it was easier/cheaper to produce. But who knows.

S&W introduced the belled barrel and fixed bushing with the second gen compact models 469/669. What many people found was that the compact pistols with a bushing that did not move were more accurate than the full size 9mm pistols that had the sloppy fitting removable bushing. Cheaper to make? Probably true, so it's a win-win with the fixed bushing.

Sig has just launched a new edition of their P226 X-Five competition guns now made in the USA. Further evidence that steel guns have value.

Steel and aluminum. My EDC is a S&W 6946. I've looked for reasons to trade it in for an M&P or Glock, but other than weight and spare parts availability, I have yet to find a compelling reason to go plastic.

While this is a very valid concern, I do think it's a bit over emphasized in this case, given that few things ever break on the tanklike 3rd gens.

I don't think they're coming back and for good reason. The reasons for their discontinuance are as relevant today as they were then. New steel guns that have recently been introduced by competitors are modifications of guns still in production, not ones long out of production. That's not a direct equivalent. If the company produces something new it will probably be different and of no interest to me, but it's a nice thought.

My dream gun would be a full size 39 (blued) with a decocker only (like the Beretta G).

I dunno how to feel about this... On one hand, I really love my 4006TSW and reproductions would mean more replacement parts as well as the option to have mine factory serviced.
Also, I would love to be able to purchase a brand new 4506 or especially a 1006.

On the other hand, realistically speaking, they're probably going to cost like $1500 or more, and that's more than I'm willing to pay.

I believe that a 3913, made today, would cost about $1000. It would be well worth that. Another $500 in mags, about $150 in holsters and mag pouch, and you are below one ounce of gold. Which is my basic standard for a defensive setup.

I converted from Gen 1 (39-2) to Gen 2 (469) for about 6 months before reverting to Gen 1. I never found a S&W auto grip profile that fit as well as the 39-2 until the Shield 1.0. It fits in my pocket. The 39 never did. A 39 or a Gen 4 or whatever would be a range gun for me, not a carry option, so I'm not a buyer, but I hope everyone who would be finds one in the their stocking Christmas morning.

Smith still sells revolvers with the dreaded lock for an MSRP equal to or greater than the going price on pre-lock models, so why not a metal frame TDA/DAO they wouldn't have R&D costs to introduce?

They were never cheap to make, something that became fatal in the emerging polymer world. A new 4506 had an MSRP of just over $700 when it was introduced in 1988. Adjusting for inflation that would be $1400-$1500 today. So I wouldn't expect M&P prices.

Plus, Smith being Smith, there would probably be enough design changes that new parts won't fit the old guns. How many new revolver parts still fit the old ones? Exactly one. So, those thinking they'll get new product support for their old guns will be disappointed.

This isn't happening.

Got it from reliable source. Starting with 59 series and then 45 series. My dealer got it from Smith. Not sure when the flow will start. Also not sure if they will be TSW versions which were the last versions made. Stay tuned.
Hope so. Have 3 45 TSWs, & 16(+4506 & a couple others), as well as, 40 TSWs & 16. Would like to see them in titanium.

I'd be down for a 5906TSW. That would be awesome. It probably won't happen but if it does I will gladly pick one up.

I could use a 39-2 in the Classic Line. And, in the regular line, the 5906 and 3913. Whatever they do, never underestimate the willingness of the product planners at S&W to screw up a perfectly good idea.
