I saw the SW1911 new offering with the
Titanium firing pin. DOes any9one know if the
TI FP can be simply installed in a regular
SW1911? Order the part from S&W and if it requires a special firing pin spring get that
as well Yeah I know call em ansd ask. I
was wondering because I have the Ti Hammer Strut and TI Mian Spring Cup but talking to
Brownells they couldn't guarante whcih
TI firing pin would fit the S&W 1911. So, it
still has the stocker FP in it.

I have snap caps for the TI firing pin dry firing.

You might try calling S&W rather than Brownells.

Just a tought...

For what its worth: When I had my 1911 at the gunsmiths for a tune-up, I asked about a Ti firing pin, they are very knowledgeable and I think on the edge, if not the bleeding edge. Their position was firing pin movement was about the least part of lock time, hence quite insignificant, and much more could be gained elsewhere. This all assumes that 1911 lock time is a problem in the first place.
But, whatever it takes to sell the iron.

Roger,
That's why I was asking Mr. J. I found the quantum improvement happened via the lightening of the hammer, far less percentage wise improvement from the smaller, lighter parts and the parts that are encountering less movement?

Spotted dog, I was ordering a different MSH to replace the IMO polymer arched and checkered stocker, and the gunsmith ordered it and recommended the Ti hammer strut and MS cap,
and it wasn't much for those parts. Just thought I'd finish the job, personal foibl?

Heck I bought a Titanium engine bolt for my
DUcati because it was stroner and better built
than the stocker after hearing of a couple of like models being raced having theris break. and if the stock parts were/are (still got em )
MIM well why not?

If I do get a Ti firing pin, I'll probably do the switch when my 1911 gets a trigger/action job. I'll check out the link to the thread, I'm a member of that Forum as well

Thanks all, kinda slow in the response but got hng up in something else today.

Despite all the concern about "lock time," the answer is much simpler.

The new 1911 with the Ti firing pin will not have the firing pin safety, and use of the lighter Ti firing pin will make it less likely to have an inertial discharge if the pistol is dropped on the muzzle. Simple safety issue. Not a "lock time" issue.

Thanks Shawn!
I've ceased playing with 1911's. So I'm out of the loop as to what their area's of concern are. I've done, then undone, then re-done all I care to with them. I've finally figured out that for me anyway, JMB knew what he was doing WAY better than me! Only took me 40+ years? But I always did ride the little bus!
