s&w victory
Not sure if this is the right place for this topic , but I would like input on what people here think of the victory 22 pistol? I want to buy my brother a gun for xmas , he wants a 22 already owns a single six so I though a nice semi auto would be good? How does the Victory compare to say the Ruger mark4. My budget is south of $1000.

I'm a big fan. Bought mine in 2016. Enjoy it very much.

I think the Victory is a pretty decent pistol for the price. I've had mine since 2017 and have not had any issues with it. They are pretty nice as they come but I tend to be a tinkerer and can't leave things as they are and there are quite a few aftermarket goodies available so I liked that. You say your brother already owns a Single-six so he must be familiar with Ruger and the MK4 semi-autos are good pistols too. I'm a Ruger fan also but all of mine are older MKII series.

Honestly, the Victory is OK, but the Ruger Mark 4 has a lot of features that would make it a better choice for your brother's gift. The Mark 4 is a little more ergonomically friendly, less weight, less bulky, it is a cinch to take down now that they have redesigned the take down method, sights are good, accuracy is great and for around $100 for a Volquartsen drop in trigger kit you will get a 2.5 pound target grade trigger! The Victory's trigger is spongy and a bit heavy for a target gun. You also need an Allan Wrench to take down the Victory, the Ruger is tool less.
There are a plethora of accessories for the Ruger and it is a much more popular target pistol. Ruger's QC is also way better than S&W's at this juncture and their repair time is a week or two whereas S&W's is many months! IMHO the mark 4 is the way to go - no contest in my mind.

My MkIV is way easier to clean than the Victory. If you're running a can, the Ruger has negligible back blast whereas the Victory will spray your shooting glasses.

I don't use a suppressor and never will. From your description, I reckon your brother is the same way. I've owned a S&W Victory for several years now. I purchased one not too long after they were released. Mine came with the thread barrel, and I believe it cost me $330 shipped from Bud's. No complaints about cleaning, reliability, the trigger, or anything at all. They're still generally less expensive than the Ruger offering. With a budget of $1k, I'd say buy the $370 retail Victory, an upgraded barrel and trigger, a carrying bag, and box of ammo. Put it all in one box, and give him a cool project to do. That, or you can just buy the Target model for $600 retail that comes fully loaded with an excellent trigger, barrel, top rail, and all.
Here's a video of the breakdown. It's simple and straightforward. It's not as involved as one might makes it seem, nor is cleaning it once it's disabled. Litteraly takes a minute or two to have the pistol stripped which is typically something you'll be doing while at home with all your cleaning tools and supplies out already.

No experience with the Victory but, I have 2 22A's. Love them. Takes a little getting use to field stripping to clean but, they are great shooters. Put a Simmons scope on one and was putting them on paper at 100. Mag release is the other big gripe. You get used to it and for a plinker, it works just fine plus it is cheaper than a Ruger or Victory.

I've had my victory for 5 years and never had a problem. Shoots great and simple to take down. So you have to use an Allen wrench to disassemble it, it's not a BIG DEAL! Best bang for your buck unless you want to spend more.

I am not a owner or a hater, but they do have an inordinate amount of teething problems which are generally worked through by Loc-Tite on the screw by the trigger or changing the ammunition or other small adjustment. Once worked through they appear to work fine.

I have both they are terrific firearms.
The victory issue is the under screw getting loose after about 100 rounds but is very well designed and easy to clean.
The Smith feeds/runs perfectly well with quality ammo especially Mini Mag ammo. It does not like cheap ammo and will jam.
The Ruger mark I II III series are harder to clean.
The Ruger mark VI series does not feel as sturdy.
The Rugers run good on most any .22 ammo.
As far as quality control better at Ruger that is debatable.
I bought a GP100 from Buds it had a crooked barrel and could not hit a barn door at 25 yards.
Ruger replaced it but it was a real pain in the butt as Buds would not take it back.
Ruger and Smith customer service is exemplary and I actually enjoy chatting with them they are knowledgeable.
Both great American companies and make me proud to use their products.

Steve, if you call S&W customer service they will send you a newer improved takedown screw free of charge.

Smith & Wesson SW22 Victory Semi-Auto Rimfire Pistol $429.99
Ruger Mark IV 22/45 Semi-Auto Rimfire Pistol $419.99
From the same retailer the price difference is not a factor. I fired my buddies Ruger and it was a blast, very accurate, and reliable.
IMHO

The Victory without the threaded barrel can be had online for $350. The Victory with thread barrel is $384.

I see the Ruger 40107 Mk IV for $351, so there again the price difference is not a factor.

I really like the Victory. Great pistol Even better after I put a TK trigger in it.
I have several Ruger MII pistols with after market parts and to me nothing beats those. None of the Rugers after version II are as well built Even the SW 41 which is great but to damn heavy
To answer you question, yes get the Victory

Uh, lots of responses but nothing more from the OP. Wonder if he is making any progress with his decision?
