I just purchased a 4006 TSW CHP. Can the 10 round Mec-Gar mags fit and work properly?? I know there are different mag well dimensions but I am not familiar with them . NJ has the 10 round max law.

5906 mags will in fact lock into the 4006chp frame no problems. I have tested over two dozen including met gar magazines in my CHP4006TSW 9mm conversion. I have not attempted to fire 40S&W from a 59 series magazine but they will fit and load.

Personally I would stay with SW OE mags designed for 40SW - there are likely subtle differences at top lip feeding area. There are some times used 10 rd SW mags on eBay (where they "limit" sales to 10 rd or less) or Gunbroker. But dont mistake the 9rd 4013TSW mags as they are too short for a 4006 frame. Or PM me - I think I have some that came with a 4006 I bought used - but it will probably be end of Jan before I can check.

Mec-gar magazines work great. They are an OME for many brands of pistols. Their 15 and 17 shot magazines work great in my 5906. I've run them in Sigs and CZ pistols for years with no problem. Obviously a factory mag is always the best way to go but I wouldn't hesitate to use Mec-gar brand magazines.

MecGar makes great mags but As far as I know MecGar does not make 40SW mags for the 4006. Their 5906 mags may fit a 4006 but the top end feed geometry is designed for 9mm. I would not hesitate to rely on a MecGar 9mm mag in a 5906 and if they make a 40SW mag it should be fine but I am not a fan for mixing calibers.

I’m jealous you picked up a CHP - it’s still on my list.

I do believe I have a few 10rd factory mags (maybe 3 or 4) that I would be willing to sell or trade.

Thank you for the info. NJ has the 10 round mag law so I have to find the quality 10 round mags. I was told the 4006 series have different mag well measurements which is frustrating

Don't be frustrated.

All full size 40 models will accept all mags for full size 40s.

All compact double stack 40s will accept ALL double stack 40 mags.

Early full size 40 models will NOT accept 9mm double stack mags but later double stack 40 models will, but may not feed 40 rounds reliably.

The engineering change to the magwells occurred in the early '90s, way before the 4006CHP.

I did a little research on the MecGar mags - there is one seller out there claiming to have MecGar mags for 4006, but if you check MecGar's site, they only show for 5906. As was pointed out the 5906 mags will most likely fit into the magwell but MecGar lists no mags compatible with the 4006.

There were also some noname mags out there a few years ago that claimed to work for both 5906 (15rd) and 4006 (11 or maybe even 12 rd) - I think I have a couple but I did not find them of sufficient quality to trust.

iBuyItRight on GB had factory SW 10 rd 40SW mags at one time - not sure if he has any left, but might be worth checking his current ads for 11 rd mags and messaging him. I bought CHP 4006TSW and extra mags from him a few years back when he had several listed - back when they were going under $500 - and he was always good in responding and good to deal with. You might get lucky.

The 40 OEM magazines are not common, but by no means scarce, I saw two new in the package and maybe half a dozen used ones at the last gun show.

From what some people think, the Yellow follower mags were designed for the first 4006. You want the blue follower mags. The tolerance is different with the TSW

I have used the yellow follower magazines in my CHP TSW without issue

I’ve got both yellow and blue follower mags. They’re all flawless in both of my 4006TSWs, 4046TSW and 411. It seems like everyone is making this confusing so here is a summary:

1.) Any full size (11rd) 3rd Gen 40 mag will be perfect for a CHP 4006TSW.

2.) There may be some random other manufacturers but when it comes to the 40s the only ones that everyone can highly recommend are authentic S&W mags.

3.) It doesn’t make a bit of difference if the follower is yellow or blue as there is no functional difference between the early (yellow) and later (blue) followers.

4.) Factory mags are still semi-common on the auction sites, but full size mags that are factory limited to 10rds seem to be much more scarce.
